I was looking up the base camp earlier this week while I was thinking about how to get some sort of meeting going. Here is what I read: http://aecnews.com/news/2006/08/16/1958.aspx Has anyone heard any news about a base camp in the future @unknownuser said: SketchUp 3D Base Camp Drops Off the Radar for 2006 Posted on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 2:25 PM The 2005 SketchUp 3D Base Camp won’t be returning for an encore in 2006. In a letter today to Base Camp attendees, The Google SketchUp team said “It's not that we don't want to; we just don't have the resources to do it properly.” Given that SketchUp is now owned by a company that harvests money with almost as many zeros as its name suggests, one has to wonder what resources are lacking. The apology continues: BaseCamp was such a great experience last year that we were all looking forward to doing it again this fall. Getting the chance to meet everyone, and to have everyone meet each other, was our favorite part of the event. This doesn't mean that there won't be one next year—that's still very much a possibility. The letter tries to explain what’s keeping the SketchUp team so busy it can’t throw another big party: Currently, we're working on SketchUp 6 and Grizzly, which some of you might have seen previewed at AIA in Los Angeles in June. We're also trying our hardest to have both platforms available at the same time. Then there are the French, Spanish, Italian, German and Japanese versions of SketchUp 6 that we've got to have ready... Needless to say, we don't have much time to use the pool table in the break room anymore. If you need a SketchUp 3D Base Camp fix, here’s a list of articles from our coverage last year: @robmoors said: I believe something like a conference already exists: The Sketchup Basecamp

not a lot of interest here... only 15 users have signed up. no one has added any plans... is there an issue I'm un aware of? is there some misunderstanding about who get's the money from these plans or the work done on this site? I'll answer any questions you have, this is a community project so I'd love to hear what the community thinks...

Probably shouldn't tell this. We have a prankster that loves to pull jokes on people. He recently had a birthday and we found out from his wife... he had a vasectomy recently as well. Don't ask the conversation.. i wasn't a part of that i just used it as fuel. So, we photoshopped him up pretty bad. I took a picture of Bob Barker and had him saying to "Have your office prankster spayed or neutered." I put his face on Pamela Anderson's body looking down at himself saying "You know this procedure hasn't changed me at all". I put his face on Wonder woman, the village people, even had the local radio/tv guy reporting that "a local man had lost his game"... We printed these out on the color plotter at like 36"x48" and put them up everywhere. I thought, ok that's definitely going to cross the line and make him mad as hell and he'll stop some of his pranking. Well, he thought it was the most hilarious thing even brought the print outs home to show his wife...

without sounding like a conspiracy theorist i must say it is ironic that recently we have been hearing about all these defective products we import, from toys to clothes. Also recently we are hearing about the downward spiral of our dollar...hmmm. It is also maybe just a coincident that our imports and dependancy on foriegn goods is the number one reason for declining 'greenback'. Me sees another 'Made in america' movement on the horizon.

Have you tried Google Video hosting? http://video.google.com/ I haven't but they might not compromise your file qualities (yep, I should try it, too). It says that through the web surface you can upload videos up to 100 Mb (each) - bigger files should be uploaded by their desktop uploader. This sounds like they do not comromise your 20 something Mb files.

Thanks for the links Mike. The price is already coming down then. I'm very interested in the prospects of having diy 3d printers but the RapRep project seems still quite rudimentary The fabbers seem to be a bit further on. I've downloaded a free version of Pepakura, a free "model unfolder". Interesting. http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/

Kris, you are perfectly right about the 10% increase in constructions costs. Its the Chinese and Indian economies putting up all those new buildings. Maybe better to get out of buildings and into Commodities Investment Mike

Believe it or not I use Windows media player Why - firstly because I love the visual Bars and Waves - Ocean mist, because it's one of the most accurate real time analysers around. ( I realise it wouldn't mean anything to anyone else) Also because I have all my libraries direct at hand, no need to load play lists. The only codec it won't play is realplayer .ram and apple .mov files. I have Realplayer Alternative installed and I try to avoid .mov files. What really annoys me is Quicktime - whenever I hit a page with quicktime it rewrites all my file preferences without my permission making it the no 1 player!! - it also pops up regularly asking me if I want to download I-Tunes. It's a pain in the A!! cheers john
