If you turn a rbz into a zip you cant auto install from Preferences > Extensions. If you want to do that, you have to have a rbz file. You just turn it into a zip if you know the folder where the plugins are located and you want to drag the plugin files to the folder. That is not standard practice and you must know what you're doing. So, general rule, don't install plugins from ZIP.

Maybe you can also do the entiere face from the beginning if you use an half one as a copied inversed component ? When you modified one of them the other will be modified too! The preferred way is as Cotty suggested. But the other way should work. You really should check for the M2 update: http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/60107 But you really should consider having 2014. I have had a good experience with it.

Have you also installed the latest version of Fredo's "Lib" which is required by most of his tools, and clearly indicated in the tools' guidance notes and their 'Dependencies'... It is available from the PluginStore http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=LibFredo6 or via the PluginsDialog - simple Search for "LibFredo". Try that, restart SketchUp to effect the changes... THEN get back in touch if it's still broken...
