The tool is within a zip file. Extract the contents into a temporary folder. You must leave files that are within a subfolder in the zip file in the equivalent real subfolder. Now move all of the contents of the temporary folder into the Sketchup Plugins folder. You should have clf_shape_bender_loader.rb and a subfolder called clf_shape_bender containing several other files [clf_shape_bender.rb and 5 .png files used for toolbar buttons, cursors etc]. You also need a script called progressbar.rb - this is freely available from Smustard.com Put that into the Plugins folder too. Restart Sketchup and activate the tool [first time only] - open Window > Preferences > Extensions - 'Shape Bender'. To see the toolbar activate it from View > Toolbars- 'Shape Bender'. You need a group/component to bend, a line drawn parallel to the X/red-axis and a curve/arc to bend around... There are detailed instructions in the tools thread... If you're asking about this plugin: http://www.guitar-list.com/download-software/convert-sketchup-skp-files-dxf-or-stl when you save the file, you need to type ".stl" at the end of the name. So "my stl export" --> "my stl export.stl"

You can also do it directly in the component browser. (Maybe not as comprehensive as Ghost Comp, but it helps you acquaint yourself with the program). Load both versions of the tree...2D and 3D...into the model, so that they will both appear in the list of In Model components. You can then delete the 3D version, if you wish...just don't purge it. Assuming that you then construct the model using the lightweight 2D version and then want to replace all instances with the 3D version:- Right-click the 2D version in the component browser and choose Select Instances from the context menu. Then right-click the 3D version and choose Replace Selected. Done!

It seems to me that it takes a while to go from making a rather mechanical usage of the tool to creatively thinking how to do certain things - I'm not by any means there, but I feel I've got a sense for what is needed to be creative and efficient with the tool - now back to practicing and asking more questions .

No problem, I´m glad I could help. A little OT - during my visit to UK in 1999 I spent a couple of days in Woking. My host was a kind, older gentleman, a true aviation aficionado. Needles to say, we had some great talks. But I still regret that I didn´t have a chance to meet his neighbour, who was a tailgunner during WW2 (and I cannot for the life of me remember what plane did he fly) My,my. sorry I did not have a workaround. See earlier in the thread as Rich kindly posted the .3ds file which worked perfectly.

Man, I am glad that worked for you. Although, most likely, it had nothing to do with my suggestion. And then, I see that you are using a Mac, so this would suggest it was not OS related.

No, the selection colour is always the same for all selected objects. It's under the (Window >) styles menu and in the dialog, "in Model" and what is in the screenshot... [image: 04cC_selected.png]

I clicked this thread as I knew someone would comment on the thread title! In my opinion it depends where you're from...Different communities use different words, if the word has lost all offensive meaning amongst those people I think it's fine. However using such slang online probably isn't a good idea!
