Its a good chance that as its a laptop, Vista is powering down the network adapter if it thinks its not being used. Did a search in google (vista power network disconnect) and found the following: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/33307acf-0698-41ba-b014-ea0a2eb8d0a81033.mspx#EAMAC 5th one in the list: "I get disconnected from my network periodically" http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-215154.php http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928152 http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_hibernate.htm Hope this helps, sorry I didn't see your post earlier.

I recently did the same and out of the box it was a pain. I downloaded the latest driver etc and in the new Mouse Control Panel I reset the wheel to be treated a 'middle-button' and that seems to have fixed it...

No, I do not have the latest Quicktime. I have Quicktime 7 - the version that out a year back or so. I do not have problems with the ensharpen codec. Those tutorials are running fine. It is with the movies (real cinema movies - trailers downloaded)that the problem exists. Anyway I shall try out with the latest version of Quicktime. With best regards PRSS

tim, i tried that but did not know what to change it to. the system offered me a few options that did not help me. when the same happened to .rb files the way out was to assign them to textedit (since ruby files are actually text files) and to save them again from TE. but i could not do something similar with the .style. after i posted this topic i have seen mentions to the fact that .style is not a valit ending here. perhaps this is the reason i was having trouble. notice too that right now all the .style files posted here have been deactivated. but thanks, anyway.

Wow, Remus! (and way beyond my knowledge and especially my comfort level) Hopefully I won't have to resort to such on my own...interesting read though, wish I felt spry enough for such play more often, I think I'd jump on this :`) Thanks for hanging with me on this guys...I had the image of hobbling a young thoroughbred for an aging jockey sticking in my mind's craw. But some searching for 64-bit apps this weekend I found there are precious few trained to sit my new beast...and all are well out of my stable's budget. So I guess I'll let it go and install the 32-bit XP...hoping I don't have a nag by the time the software catches up to the hardware. Best, Tom.

@mike lucey said: Hi Edson, I've finally got around to running Parallels 3 with Leopard 10.5. I find it better than BootCamp and much more convenient. I think Parallels V3 is a definite improvement over version 2 on the graphics front. Mike i tried parallels for 15 days and was quite happy with it so i bought a license. however, since my use of bootcamp was limited to a couple of apps i could not find much difference between it and parallels. on the other hand, we are trying out vmware fusion and it seems a really good way alternative to run win on mac. thanks.

Ditto to Dylan - I've had a 2405 for two years and it's just about perfect. Don't know about 2407 but I've had several Dell flatscreens (as well as Samsungs). Dell seems to be best value.

Hmm...this is intersting: http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/2008/01/mac-pro-performance-redux-january-2008/ The 64-bit benchmarks show a clean pair of heels to the 32 bit...these are the types of speed gains for which you'd gladly shell out for a new 'puter. As they state: "The 2.8 GHz Mac Pro running 64-bit code is faster than the 3.2 GHz Mac Pro running 32-bit code". MacOS X, but still intel quad-core processors being tested, so broadly comparable. (And we don't have to pay extra for a 64-bit OS...64-bit apps are another matter, though 0

Already reported here... However, I must say I prefer a quote from the release text so one gets an idea of what it is.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking along the same lines as far as the graphics card. Unfortunately, don't have the room for two monitors.

im no expert, but if you bought your router recently, it probably came with some network security software. the way to check it is by logging in to your router. You do this by going into your web browser and typing in the ip address of your router into the address bar. i tihnk you should be albe to find the ip address of the router in the manual. have a look at all the settings on the router and with a bit of luck there might be some security stuff. jsut a bit of general info on wifi security: the most secure is MAC address filtering, this onyl allows the computers you specify to use your network. Next is WEP and WAP this are just different systems where you ave to enter a password, i think WEP is more secure than WAP, but im not 100% And most important, good luck!
