I thought there was a program that worked with sketchup (developed with or partnered with) that could import skp files and convert them to nurbs. I swear I recall it was featured in a newsletter or some sort of announcement. I've searched all over trying to find it again. Anyone recall the program's name?

Shark FX does not currently support SketchUP 8.

you can save a copy as Sketchup 7.

I just emailed support and asked if I could test the import/export features and they sent me a fully functioning [time limited] key.

      Did anything come of this?

    • RE: Video card error, or sketchup error?

      thanks again guys.
well it seems like I have all the requirements that are recommended here http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=36208

my graphic card is an Intel HD Graphics and it claims to support OpenGL 2.1 --> http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-031105.htm

but I did see this on sketchup's requirement page

"SketchUp's performance relies heavily the graphics card driver and it's ability to support OpenGL 1.5 or higher. Historically, people have seen problems with Intel based cards with SketchUp. We don't recommend using these graphics cards with SketchUp at this time."

so does this mean that the Intel HD graphics card does support OpenGL but that it's just not compatible with sketchup's requirements? 😲

I'm gonna go have a stiff drink

I think I'm having similar issues. Disabling hardware acceleration has helped

That indicate a graphic card issue. Have you tried updating your drivers?

ok the drivers and everything else is up to date on my computer. I tried purging unused and it didn't help. I also tried removing all the plugin and that didn't help either. the file size is only about 2.5 MB. and this only started about a week ago. my laptop is a month old.

you guys got any other suggestions? at the moment I'm working on my stuff with the fast feedback unchecked.

    • Exact wall thickness

Sorry if this is answered somewhere else. I did a quick search to find a plug in or something in the program that would do this.
Basically, certain 3D printers require a minimum wall thickness. for some printable materials it's 1 mm for example.
now I know for a simple flat side I can push pull to that thickness. However, is there a way that a complex or curved open shape (like a bowl) to be clicked on and "thickened" to a specific wall thickness? I've attached an image to better explain what I mean. The underside of this flying saucer is hollow. I want to make the blue or reversed sides extrude a couple millimeters. again, sorry if this is a simple thing and covered somewhere else.
      thanks guys! πŸ˜„

    • RE: Getting Started

So I'm fairly new to this program and the virtual 3D world in general. I get a little lost when someone explains something and uses one or more words that are specific to the program or 3D programs in general. I know this would be a chore for one person to do but perhaps a thread of such words and their definitions could later be organized alphabetically which can be updated quarterly or something as the thread grows. Just a thought.
