    • RE: Extrude but preserver original line

I think you draw a line at the beginning of the surface you want to divide, then copy that to the other end of the surface, then you immediately afterwards before doing any other commands type "/10" if you want to split it into 10 equal parts.
I think that's how it was.

To extrude a face multiple times just type "*10" afterwards.

Never mind. Just realised that Ctrl did the trick. 😳

    • Extrude but preserver original line

Is there a way to make the extrude tool not merge the faces of the original shape with the extruded part?

Example: Extruding a square four times and afterward have lines cutting through the face at each interval done.

    • RE: Viewport misalignment

Ok, I just realised something about the behaviour.

When I rotate the viewport it centres around the object the cursor is over. If the cursor is not over any objects it uses the scene's 0 point.

I'm still wondering if there's a way to lock the viewport rotation centre point. When I'm modelling objects with not allot of surface, such as a fence, it consumes more time to aim the cursor at a small piece of surface. I'd much rather be able to lock it so I can press down the middle mouse button anywhere on the screen to rotate around the object.

    • Viewport misalignment

When I edit a component and rotate the viewport it often rotates around a centre-point far outside my component area causing my component to fly far out of view. Double clicking the middle mouse button centres it, but it often laps back again while I'm editing.

Any remedy for this? Very annoying to constantly having to relocate the component every time I want to rotate the view around it.

Also, sometimes the Zoom get stuck. It barely zooms in or out. Most noticeable when using the mousewheel. Slighlty rotating the viewport sometimes helps a bit.

    • RE: Center point of a circle

No Point at center here either. SUP6.

I use the endpoint inference trick, but when there's many object near or around it it often doesn't want to lock on the centerpoint. No way to further encourage it?

      Thanks!
Works well with the Filter plugin that quickly let me filter out just the faces.

But yea, it'd be nice to see stats for a selection of object.

    • Selection polygon count?

Is there a way to see the polygon count of the current selection?

I'm working on a file with a total of about 200000 edges and 45000 faces when I count nested components. I didn't create the file initially and I'm now trying to locate meshes with unnecessary high poly count.

    • RE: Graphics Card Problem

Have you tried with older drivers? Sometimes new drivers brake stuff that worked before.

Does the problem only occur in SketchUp, or in other programs as well?

That's very interesting. I think I'll have to have a little google session on Japanese joinery. πŸ˜„

Just what I needed! Thank you very much!

Is there a way to set where it begins the first object?
...maybe I can just break the spline..? I need to play around with this.

    • RE: Array Copy along Edge?

Thanks for your responses. Sorry that I wasn't very specific with my question, but I was referring to copy along an irregular edge. I was aware of the linear array copy.

I tried the ruby plugin, however I can't get it to work as I expect. The path is a set of connected lines, but the plugin won't let me select all the elements when it asks me to pick a path. It only uses the first segment I click on. preselecting the path doesn't do it either. Grouping the path segments is also a no go. Are they meant to be joined somehow? I've not found any command in SU to join connecting lines.
      Any ideas?

    • Array Copy along Edge?

Can it be done? In SU itself or with the help of an extension?

I've used to model in 3DSMax and there's a tool there that let you do this and it's such a great timesaver.

    • RE: Podium light and texture tests

Very interesting. I was playing with the trial a little, but I felt that the 500x500 restriction didn't give me the chance to evaluate the details produced. This has certainly tempted me to buy the whole thing and really give it a go. I wasn't even aware that Podium could bumpmap. Completely missed that. Guess I need to have another look at the website and the docs.

    • RE: Sketchup 7?

If there was only one improvement with SU7 I'd opt for higher polycount handling.

I don't see the need for renders in SU. If you need to render realistically there's other packages for this. If all these features suggested where implemented SU would become less of a sketching application.

I like the ideas of plugins though. Extending the app as you prefer. Like Firefox.
