My script Latticeizer does something like this...

OMG where did I get this script?
It's not in RubyLibraryDepot, it's not listed in Jim's SketchUp-Ruby Resources...
But misteriously it's in my [Plugin] folder!
Right, this script does the job beautifully. I should include this in the visual index.

      OK it's here! >>> http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&p=72154

Right after SU is started, I cannot snap my cursor to anything but after a while it is fine again.
I guess all resources are used to get SU on its feet and cannot do much of anything else?
I cannot properly navigate complex models right after I start SU either (it's locked).

This is an interesting question, mpowell.
If you want to use City Gen Street Generator, remember it doesn't do intersections without rounding corners, and the resulting surface is considered "curved" (it is not geometrically curved, but as SU category), so you need "deletecoplanaredges" ruby to get rid of unneeded edges before pushpulling them.
I would use multi-layers wall tool (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=3550&hilit=+plugin) and set up a simple rectangle as a wall section, in combination with BoolTools (http://www.smustard.com/script/BoolTools) though it is a commercial plugin.
Once it is set up, making those volumes is veeery quick.

I use Parallels on my iMac, but other Win-Mac connecting software are pretty much the same, I heard.
I run most everything I used to use on my Windows machine on it with no problem. Yes they can share files as default.

Can anyone explain the lack of entries?

Making tutorials for software is not everybody's favorite passtime I guess.
I kinda enjoy doing it, hence the steady updating of "Visual Index of Ruby
      scripts". http://www.pushpullbar.com/forums/ruby-scripts/9467-visual-index-ruby-scripts.html
I always wanted to write about this script in the Visual Index, but the complexity of the script and three-picture-per-script limit of the forum (half self-imposed) didn't allow me to take on the task.
I also happened to have the idea for the tutorial and the material at hand, which I initially thought about a SU book-deal (now dead).
So it was like a perfect opportunity for me... I hope my tutorial lived up to your standard, Dale. (BTW Camtasia Studio didn't live up to mine!)

Does anybody know, if modeling a well-known piece of furniture (designed in the last seventy years - so its copyright is effective) in a tutorial like the above case is considered as copyright infringement?

Does anybody know a good setting of Photoshop layers, to create a layered shadow-study image?
I'm trying to get gradation of shadows like the attached image, though nothing from "Dissolve" to "Luminosity" worked so far.
I'm working on colored images by the way.

Excuse the absurdity of the model, I just wanted to show how Pepakura Designer handles curves but didn't have a good architectural examples.
This is one of my kid's creations.
Texture (face) is not drawn on the paper model but exported from SketchUp as a projected texture via kmz.

    • Pepakura Designer - 3D model flattening tool

For those unfortunate ones without access to affordable 3D printer (does such a thing exist?), I strongly recommend testing Pepakura Designer, a shareware(US$38) that flattens 3D models exported from many 3D software.

You can bring 3D models straight from SketchUp (kzm or obj will be good), with or without textures.
Since it imports kmz, you don't even need SU pro version to create geometries.
Flattening is all-automatic with one click, although you can fully edit cuts, sizes and flaps afterwards.

I use 130g/m2 white Kent paper with lazer or inkjet printers. The more complex your models are, the more rewarding the making process becomes. Non-orthogonal models can be built without any difficulties too... just cut it out from sheets of paper following printed lines then fold + paste flaps. No thinking or calculations are required.

Demo version is fully functional except exporting and saving, but you can print to sheets of paper or PDF. I guess that's all you need to do, like me.

My plugin folder is over 100MB, I have practically all the plugins out there available, but I never had problems like you described.
Try emptying the plugin folder, see if it changes anything.
Usually, if Ruby scripts are problematic, you get error messages at the begining but you can start SU, ignoring the message.
I suspect some other areas than Ruby scripts.

    • RE: [Plugin] Very fast texture writer

This is a great plugin, Didier.
It's too precious to limit its users to "Developers only"... I added few lines to the Ruby so that everybody can implement it from [Plugin] menu. Find a line says [Export All Textures].

      Call for help;
The Ruby is successful in extracting 70% of textures, I don't know what happens to other 30%. I tried it on some models from 3DWarehouse, and it seems to always leave some textures unexported. Exploding all groups and components didn't make any differences. Could any Ruby-experts take a look at it?
