I can't tell from your screenshot if the Plugins folder is in the the 'root' [Macintosh HD] library path, where it should be; or say an incorrect User path...
Assuming it's in the right place... can you be more specific about about what's 'crashing' and how this manifests itself...
Does Sketchup star without errors?
Does the Extension appear in the Preferences dialog?
If you deactivate it and restart does the Tools menu item vanish, and does the toolbar vanish?
If you activate it do you get a Tools menu item and a toolbar?
If you activate the toolbar does it appear as expected?
Open the Ruby Console.
If you make a simple 4" cube [e.g. make a square and PushPull it up 4"] and make it into a group [Entity Info will show it as 'solid' when it's selected] and run the tool from the toolbar what happens?
Does a dialog appear?
If you accept the default values and press OK, what happens?
Are there any error messages? [either in the Console or in a message-box]
If errors what do they say - exactly - ?
What happens to the cube-group?
etc...
With a little more logic applied to the testing/reporting we can track the issue and fix it...

[Oxer - are you listening too?]

PS: On a completely separate side note... I see you have 'toggleWindows.rb' installed in your Plugins folder - that's a PC only script; since MACs don't have Outliner crash issues, and that script uses .so files incompatible with a MAC anyway ?

TIG:

I have the plugin installed in the correct location ... as I have all of my countless other plugins. I am in full understanding of where plugins are req'd to be located on Macs. I've gotten rid of the 'toggleWindows.rb' script (didn't realize that was PC only at the time I suppose).

When I attempt to operate the plugin with even a simple cube:

A dialogue box appears asking for parameters.
The cube switches to X-ray mode immediately.
Using the default settings, the console window says" TIG::Honeycomber: Perforating.
After waiting as long as 15 minutes, nothing "happens" to the simple cube.
If at any time during the console message (or even after 15 minutes) I even slightly move the mouse/cursor, the message in the status window disappears.

The 'symptoms' I am describing sound very similar to juanjo's.

Yes, i have all files and folder in his correct situation.
Perhaps another Mac user can tell us if the plugin works.

TIG:

I have it installed exactly as you described (see attachment).

I had it installed that way before several times, but the plugin wasn't loading the either. The only way to have anything close to operational was the clumsy way I did try (which I realize isn't the way it is intended)... but it crashed SU every time.

Thanks.

It's an Extension...
You must activate it [once] from the Window > Preferences dialog.
Once activated it has a toolbar activated from View > ToolBars.
Its menu item is then also found under the 'Tools' menu.

TIG-Honeycomber in the Plugins folder, containing the main file
TIG-Honeycomber.rb and several 'fret' .SKP and .PNG files, which are needed to make the tool work...

TIG:

I tried your plugin loaded exactly as described above (Mac OSX SU 😎 but it would not load properly. It 'partially' loads by placing both TIG-Honeycomber_loader.rb and TIG-Honeycomber.rb outisde of the TIG-Honeycomber subfolder ... however the toolbar shows no icon. When activated, I get a pop-up window with this message:

"TIG::Honeycomber:

SKP missing from folder 'TIG-Honeycomber'!

Exiting..."

Dragging the four (4) .skp files and the two (2) .png files outside of the TIG-Honeycomber subfolder, allows the tool to load properly. However once activated, the tool does not seem to work properly.

I don't know if I really understand your request, but here is my answer πŸ˜‰
[attachment=0:6mcjm8ou]<!-- ia0 -->Distrib.skp<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:6mcjm8ou]
There is a component in a component, you choose the number of sub component and you can stretch the mastercomponent along the red axes. The sub components will be placed at
X = Copy * (Master!LenX - LenX)/(Copies + 1)
You must fix the LenX of the sub component to avoid to transform them when you resize the master component.

I'm trying to do something similar to some of the typical fence direct components (DC's) that are floating around.

I have LenX of the subcomponent fixed, and the number of them is being determined by dividing the Master!LenX/LenX. Additionally, I'm trying to use the 'INT' math function to round-down the number of repeating SC's, to keep the total length of them to less than Master!LenX.

LenX is also the "spacing", as the sub-components are touching each other, so there is actually no space between them.

Thanks.

• "Centered" Repeating Sub-Components?

Hello:

I'm trying to figure out the commands/formula for "centering" the position of repeating subcomponents, along one axis of dynamic component. I want the total number of sub-components to be equally spaced from each end of the overall length of the component, no matter what the length is. I am assuming the repeating subcomponent should not be constrained (position-wise) along that axis?

Does my explanation make sense?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Ok, I have done about all I can do with this plugin. I have tested numerous shapes including gullfo's and the plugin produced the expected results, with minor exceptions, without fail using all size, origin, rotation options while creating tiles.

zfrps, I fixed that "gap" thing for you.

Working OK from what I can see. Thanks so much sdmitch!

Apparently all my test shapes have been at Z=0. Elevation does matter. Sorry about that.

Well at least I thought elevation mattered. I did a move/copy on a shape and elevated it. When I ran the plugin, I got the pulled down faces without texture, but when I created a elevated shape, it didn't have the problem. I then tried to duplicate the create at Z=0 and move/copy to an elevation and results were normal! What a lovely thing an intermittent problem is!!!

Sam, I had tried both methods you described, but still had the same issues.

seems to work perfect. including complex ceilings. but... if you have the face @ zero on the z-axis, you do see the inverted faces which are flush with the grid and not dropping through. so just make sure your ceiling face is above the zero plane... then again i may have spoke too soon... a complex ceiling definitely exhibits some strange results even when sitting above the 0 on z-axis...

Each time I've tried (and just did again), my ceiling plane was 'elevated'. The plugin worked perfectly until this last tweak ... I'm no programmer or ruby person, but it would appear something occurred w/in the last effort?

I've also tried both 2 x 2 and 2 x 4 grids.

Sdmitch ... I was getting an odd result when I tried your latest update. Some of the tiles were positioned low, and some were high ... and faces were flipped too?

Was this a one time thing or have you had this result on other occasions. I have never seen this.

Anyone else having this problem?

I tried a handful of times and kept getting the same result unfortunately. And it was a simple rectangular ceiling shape.

It should be noted that not all ceiling tiles are designed to simply drop into the metal grid, some manufacturers also provide Ceiling tiles that do indeed project below the metal grid hence providing a nice rebated look to the entire ceiling.
Regardless its great to see the option of adding real tiles or using a texture map. πŸŽ‰

Good point tomot ... I agree with you.

One benefit of the individual tiles being created is the ability to switch them out with a lighting fixture.

mra, you are right. Don't know why I thought that actual tiles were necessary.

massimo, It seems you were right also. It seems that the pushpull operation "flips" the face and apparently moves the texture to the back. How weird is that.

Yes, that does solve the problem sdmitch. I was clicking on a face looking down at it ... more of a 'roof' perspective than looking up at the 'ceiling'.

Is it possible to have the grid generated to be centered on the face in both directions, rather than have it start in one corner?

This looks like a nice little plugin, but if I'm not mistaken, I think the grid "angle" at the perimeter is generated backwards isn't it? The angles should be reversed so that the ceiling 'pad' rests on the horizontal leg of the angle. The attached image shows a corner.

Thanks.
