No feedback? I'm not thin-skinned, if it's crap I would rather know it than have clients see it.

SU in web design feedback welcome
Hi all, so I have been working on getting up a new website. We are still in a sort-of rough draft stage but thought some of you might get a kick out of this since it involves SU.
http://naturalbuildersllc.com/virtual-tours/
You will be able to tell where I used SU. Check out the virtual tours and look at the skin of the tour. The tours are pretty cool themselves IMHO. Make sure to try and click and drag the images when they load.
I would love to get some feedback about any of it. Thanks.

RE: Construction & Working Drawings - Discussion
I got pretty excited with LO beta and tried to make it work, I struggled with it for many projects then stoped when my support tickets when unanswered. The release version is more stable but when I saw it still lacked dimensioning I just gave up on it. I would instantly embrace it for shop drawings and simple plans if it could dimension since I am still doing quite a bit of design in SU. For now it just has really limited use in my work world

Looking for a little help from other pros..
So I now do all my design in SU pro. When I'm doing full house prints I use AutoCAD (not for design, just for prints). For smaller projects it would be much easier if I could keep my workflow to just SU.
An example: I'm making shop drawings of some cabinets tonight for my crew to start building tomorrow. First I get the view and visibility how I want them, then I put the dims on a layer or in a group. Next I make a scene. I then move to the next cabinet. When I am done I will use LO or export jpegs then assemble them and print.
HERE IS WHAT DRIVES ME CRAZY. When I dimension the next cabinet and create a new group or layer this new group/layer shows up in the scene that I just made and had exactly how I wanted it. How do I exclude this new information from my previous scenes? It's not a bother with just a few scenes but when you have 20 it sucks. There must be an elegant workaround.

RE: PhotoMatch in SU7.0Pro
I just got a program from here
http://www.kissmyimage.com/en/download/
It will keep the pixel size of an image the same but reduce the file size to one you input. I am using it for panoramas on virtual tours and it is amazing. I am dropping files from 3mb to 900kb without any noticable difference. There is a free version with a very small water mark. Full version is cheap.
I highly recommend this, the people on the panorama forums say it is way better than what PS can do.

RE: How do i mirror an image?
You can mirror an object by selecting all of the geometry, select the scale tool and grab the green square in the middle of one of the objects sides. The side you grab the green cube on should be parallel to the mirror plane you want but on the opposite side of the object. If this isn't clear, don't worry just play with it. It will make sense.
After you grab the green cube move your mouse toward the center of the object then type "-1" and hit "enter". This should get you a mirror image.
If I understand you correctly you want to make an object where one side is the mirror image of the other. If that is right do the following:
-select all geometry that makes up 1/2 the object
-make into a component
-copy component
-mirror one of the components as described above
-connect togetherNow if you alter one of the components the other will reflect the change and it will stay symmetrical.
Hope this makes sense

RE: Are you ready for SketchUp 7 news?
Ah ha! see none of us carefully read the language of the post. He never said which Saturday
So for the next year or so be sure to check your mailbox on Sat

RE: Are you ready for SketchUp 7 news?
ooo...that's pretty exciting you tease. I'm sure this would meet any non-disclosure agreement standard: Coen, on a scale of 1-16.5 how would you personally rate what will be announced on Sat? 16.5 being the highest.

Good joke
I was walking past the mental hospital the other day,and all the patients were shouting ,'13....13....13'
The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little gap in the planks and looked through to see what was going on.
Some bastard poked me in the eye with a stick.
Then they all started shouting '14....14....14'.. -
RE: Quick doors
Unless I miss my mark, he is proposing a way to build a more "budget" door for a certain market. I bet we all prefer traditional joinery but the fact of the matter is that not everyone is willing to pay for craftsmanship. Sometimes we are faced with tight budgets and either you can provide a product and get the job or you can say you don't offer anything in that price range and walk away.
I guess my point is: it's more of a business decision than a decision that this system beats traditional solid wood joinery. Comparing the two is apples to oranges (or dollars to nickles).

RE: Solar canopy house
I install solar arrays for clients all the time. There are some great companies that design/engineer mounting systems. It would be a challenge to engineer this system but does not look like a "deal-breaker" to me. The cost might be however. Each of those panels cost about $800. You have an incredible abount on that model. We are in the sun belt (NM) and we typicaly install 1-2KW per home (6-12 panels) for customers that are willing to be conservative with their energy usage. These systems cost between $15-25k. It is important to adjust the angle throughout the year as the design would do. Tracking the sun across the sky on a daily basis (proposed model would not do) only adds about 7% gain during the winter months when power is most needed, so skip this feature if you ever consider it.
The design is very well done from an aesthetic standpoint. If you want to increase the passive solar performance you should look at the overhangs on the south side. There is a great free program for overhang calculations which I encourage every designer to look at:
http://www.susdesign.com/tools.php
I find the Window Overhang Annual Analysis to be very helpful designing windows that allow the sun to come in in the winter and block it in the summer. You should also consider how to insulate all that concrete, if you haven't already. We put R-50 in the roof of our solar homes and at least R-30 in the walls. The less windows on the North, East and West the better.
Keep at it, every well designed solar home helps us all. Thanks for thinking of our environment.

Yup curvestitcher was the one I was thinking of. Thanks for the great script Rick.

Script location help please
I had to reformat my computer due to a virus. Wow that's fun, after you read this why don't you go back up your files. Really.
I lost the location of the nifty little ruby that connects two curves with a face. Anyone know where this ruby resides (or it's name even).
thanks

Thanks for fixing the png extension. You moderators are doing a great job

RE: Tower city in S.Korea
Your model looks good.
I also can't help but comment on the design, I really like that it looks like the love child of a sky scraper and a dead tree. Is no one else getting tired of modern glass, concrete and corregated steel buildings. Squares upon squares with not a curve in site. I welcome the departure from the stark and intellectual minimal modern movement....Woah, sorry for the rant, keep up the good work Huyvuvn.
