So I now do all my design in SU pro. When I'm doing full house prints I use AutoCAD (not for design, just for prints). For smaller projects it would be much easier if I could keep my workflow to just SU.

An example: I'm making shop drawings of some cabinets tonight for my crew to start building tomorrow. First I get the view and visibility how I want them, then I put the dims on a layer or in a group. Next I make a scene. I then move to the next cabinet. When I am done I will use LO or export jpegs then assemble them and print.

HERE IS WHAT DRIVES ME CRAZY. When I dimension the next cabinet and create a new group or layer this new group/layer shows up in the scene that I just made and had exactly how I wanted it. How do I exclude this new information from my previous scenes? It's not a bother with just a few scenes but when you have 20 it sucks. There must be an elegant workaround.

I think theres a 'create hidden layer' ruby somewhere that does what you want.

edit: i'll be damned if can find it, though 😕

another way (posted by susan sorger) is to create a template with a large number of disabled layers. thus when you create new geometry or dimensions/text just put it in one of the disabled layers, enable it and create a new scene. it will show only in the new scene.
