    • Is it possible to render Colored Light thru glasses??!

Hi Vray users, I wonder if this is possible in vray sketchup. check the ref images please.
if I want to render colored lights thru glasses, what settings do I have to tinker?
      my guesses is:

      1. make sure the glasses setting is "right".
      2. what type of light should I use?
      3. is caustics necessary?

Please help, if this is possible. Thanks.

    • RE: How do I make my lamp post cast lightrays in the dark?

maybe create a rectangle light (area light) then make it a component, rotate a 90 degrees. make it invisible. place it near the spot light. hope this helps.

    • RE: HELP! "Unable to edit light - no light asset was provided"

it happened to me too. I placed a light in a component. and same error message popped up. my fix is I will create a new light outside the component. then cut it, then double click into the the component, then paste the light that I created outside the component. now the newly created light is inside the component. it worked for me. hope that makes sense.

    • RE: Practical autosave minutes??! vs Manual Save?!

thanks again for the replies. no problems with "hijacking this thread". I myself found the automatically created backups lil bit useless. my macbook pro only have 256GB ssd hard disk. it definitely takes up space. my dilema is I dont think getting a better computer is right for me yet. updating to mac pro is too pricey. i love macs though. updating to custom built pc or hp z workstations or any high end pcs are still pricey based on the minimal or low demand 3d interior rendering jobs im doing.

    • RE: Practical autosave minutes??! vs Manual Save?!

thanks, driven. I recently ran into a problem that my files got too big that vray crashed every time I hit render.
after trying to render the big file for 2 hours, I decided that I had to divide the file into 2 small files to render. it finally worked.
what im still hoping like others is that we can soon render in Vray for SU 2015. hope I don't have to divide my 90mb+ file into 2.

    • RE: Practical autosave minutes??! vs Manual Save?!

great replies!! Thanks. I ususally hit "command s" chronically after almost every operation. because sketchup can crash at any moment, even if I just try to move an object in a group. or any simple operation.

also I do create backups if I think I need them.

just wish sketchup can crash even less, but im still using su 2014, coz I use vray. when vray for sketchup 2015 comes out, my sketchup days will be easier I think.

      @3dita said:

That looks like low sampling of Irradiance Map. Put higher values (go from 50/20 to something like 80/40)

will try that setting. Thanks for the help!

    • Practical autosave minutes??! vs Manual Save?!

Hi you all, I usually set autosave to 3mins. BUT is it ideal for me? I don't know.
I do constantly manual save by pressing "Command S" (I use mac). when it autosaves, it will freeze my sketchup program.

Should I set the autosave to longer minutes and rely on Manual save? What is the best practice for you though. Interested to know. Thanks so much.

I added a dome light, but there are many noises in the scene. what settings should i change? thanks.

ALSO increase the subdiv to 32. the noise is gone. but the yellow patch noise behind the cabinet is weird. does someone know why it's there?

i use macbook pro retina 15" 2013. I would recommend getting a faster laptop. but i don't know if speed is important. but I guess macbook air will be very slow.
