Windows Vista, which you need to de-vistaize in order to get something productive out of it... Im on a mac now, and like it, but as someone else said before, xp and win 2000 are not bad at all.

      Office 2007, nuff said....

3DStudio Max, while powerful, i never liked the whole parametric thing...

Itunes on windows. On a mac is ok, but on a pc is slooooowwwww

Windows Media Player. You have to right click to find how to do something simple, actually anything...

Archicad on teamwork. While regular archicad is ok, the whole teamwork thing makes no sense...

right click the offending file, get info. Scroll down to "open with, select the preferred application, and click "change all". This should fix your problem

    • RE: Kerkythea, Podium or Paranesi

I voted for Podium for it´s ease of use, and integration with sketchup (at least on pc),
kerkythea for it´s solid community and it´s price...
Piranesi is the most expensive of the three, but it has a completely different approach than the other two. I would describe it as photoshop 3d. It works best on npr kind of stuff, the other two are more geared to photoreal stuff

      Edson,
      Something like this?
Try FastStone...it does basic to rudimentary editing and is a great little app for organizing and viewing images...and its free.

If everything else fails, try downloading vlc player for mac, wich will playback divx, xvid, and most other video codecs. Another plus: fullscreen video and fullscreen on a second screen (useful for watching movies on a tv attached to your mac).

    • RE: Shortcut Differences from Mac and PC

most shortcuts are the same on both platforms, xcept for osx reserved keyboard combinations (for example, deselect on pc is control t, on the mac, this combination invokes the text style window). One annoying issue is that for new keyboard shortcuts we can´t use the command key.

A list of features only present on osx sketchup:

-Ability to export png´s with transparent background.

-2d output is not restricted to the aspect ratio of the model window.

-Assign resolution to 2d raster output in dpi.

-Customization of the main toolbar, adding the most used commands to it.

-Mutiple models open at the same time, only one instance of sketchup.

-On the free version only, the ability to change location info

Most are minor annoyances, otherwise, skp works beautifully on osx. Congratulations on the switch

    • RE: Request for Test Hardware SKP

The performance of this machine was one of the biggest selling points. Before buying it, I brought the viewer and a heavy scene to test it. It worked more than ok. I was sold. The integrated graphics are not bad at all, though i had to turn off fast feedback.

      You have to consider that:

      a. the drivers for video, and pretty much everything else in macintosh machines are developed by apple.
      b. osx is very opengl dependent. all the fancy animations and effects are rendered in the video card. Apple wouldn´t settle for a video card (even an integrated one) with lousy performance, or else general os performance would suffer.

got to scene 7 ok, scene 8 would go into bounding box, but would refresh inmediatly after orbit, 9 the same, 10 some lag (about 2-5 seconds) and refresh, and 11, really choppy, even in bounding box mode.

    • RE: Bug display

This probably has to do with OpenGL hardware acceleration, and substandard videocard drivers. Try turning hardware acceleration off (sketchup preferences). If you have an intel integrated video card, look no further, there´s your problem.

    • RE: Selection not respecting layer visibility

      Hi mark

Layers in skp don´t work as they do in cad. For example, if you have a two connected lines, one on layer x, the other on w, and your current layer is z, if you draw the missing line to complete the triangle, you´ll end up with 2 lines on different layers, the remaining one, and the face automatically generated on another. As you can imagine, this can be very messy.

To avoid this, I draw everything on layer0, group it, and then, move the group (not individual lines or faces) to the layer where i want it to be.

    • RE: Inference interference

      Hi Notdone

Inference is fundamental for sketchup, and it has to be on all the time, since it´s working all of the time in 3d, unlike other apps. So, if you draw a line, that seems to be ok in a certain view..., it probably isn´t when looked from a different perspective.

Sometimes, when you move an object in a direction near but not on an axis, i usually move the object to a different place, and after, move it to the point where i really want it, in order to avoid "axis lock in"

there are some useful tools and functions that can help. One is using the arrow keys to lock in certain direction. Try it while using the move tool. the other is using a plug in such as mover, which allows you to move an object with the arrow keys.

      Good luck

    • Units in dwg export

I work on metric, but, when i export to dwg, the resulting file has it´s units set to inches. This results in a scaled drawing, when inserted into an existing metric drawing in acad. The workaround involves opening the exported dwg, typing units, setting them to meters, and saving the dwg.

    • Option in 2d hidden line to export groups and components

In the old atlast site, there was a video of sketchup sections finished in acad. This involved generating a section slice, making it a component, saving, opening and exporting this slice as a 3d dwg (not 2d). This process preserved all group and component information, which once opened in acad, became blocks.
Now, when exporting a 2d section slice, or a 2d hidden line, with perspective off, and perpendicular to the section plane, the resulting dwg is just a collection of small lines.

    • RE: Selection issues with Leopard

While I´m not on leopard (still on tiger), on one installation of sup, i experienced some serious "beachballing". I deleted and reinstalled, with no improvement. But, when after deleting, i also removed sup´s preferences, everything went back to normal. Somehow those preferences got corrupted. Maybe that´s the problem (then again, i´m not on leopard yet)?
