    • RE: Forums' Future ?

The way I see it, if it wasn't for this forum Sketchup wouldn't have survived and/or thrived. I couldn't imagine using Sketchup in its native vanilla form without all the amazing techniques, plugins and styles posted here. I see the transfer to Trimble as a possibility for new life for Sketchup as everyone well knows that Google seems to have let the project get stagnant on their end. With Trimble coming on board perhaps they will bleed new light into the project and use the undeniable resources here to update Sketchup to the software it really should be.

I mean, if Google hasn't alienated Sketchup users by lack of interest in moving it forward, Trimble won't be able to either.

I would just like to thank each and every contributor to this forum, be it by Plugin, Texture, Technique, Model or just a kind word of encouragement, you have all made this the true SketchUp forum, no matter whose ownership title is on the box.

    • RE: [Ongoing-Tutorial] How to make a car using SDS/Artisan?

Sorry its just called 'Hidden Geometry' in the 'View' Menu. It will show all the hidden lines as dotted and you will be able to select each -piece- of face individually and paint them.

    • RE: SU animate - animate individual faces?

I believe the only way of doing something like that would be to create shape 1 with a scene and shape 2 with a finishing scene and then model several iterations in between the two shapes saving a scene each time.

    • RE: Glossy Material?

And keep in mind that the highlights in a glossy material are reflection of a light source so if you are going to render them you will need some Vray lights in a studio to get highlights.

But make sure you have 'Show Hidden' turned on.

    • RE: On our way to a new beta?

I hope Chaos doesn't go the same route with VFSU or they are going to alienate a LOT of users. I mean, how can they boast all these new features for ver 1.5 when current features of 1.4 don't work. And then to potentially charge current customers extra money to fix a product that should have been tested properly before being sold in the first place is very bad business indeed.

I'm sure it could be easily modelled. Do you have a picture of what you are looking for?

You can also always set a whitepoint in post processing.

      i don't understand, what's that? 😕

For instance, if you render your image you can then bring it into Photoshop (or other editing programs) and tell Photoshop what is supposed to be white, it will then shift all your colors accordingly and your blueish tinge will turn white and all your other colors should be proper as well.

    • RE: Help needed with organic modelling

I'm not sure what your intended final output of this model is, but could you just use texturing for the windows. I'm just thinking with the number of components you need for windows its going to make the model hard to work with.

Is it me or is that the -strangest- free trial request form ever. All the fields are required and none of them apply because its asking me how I enjoyed a piece of software I haven't yet had a chance to try. LOL.

    • RE: Vray not working

I have just a couple of quick questions. In you model is the room completely closed? And if so is there any windows and or lights setup for vray? From the screenshot it was hard to tell, but if you render a completely closed in room without windows/lights then it will turn out black. Just a thought.

If you do a search in 3D warehouse for iClone they have some nice street models that are modular which might be useful to you.

    • RE: Water Render

Do you have a picture of you render? I believe that in order for fog to work you need to have your water as an enclosed solid and have defraction on.

But to be honest I've never seen a pool with colored water. Usually you just see the color of the base of the pool, this is just my observation.

    • RE: Exact effect of a 40 watt fluorescent light

So with the model shown above, what effect would you get if you completely incased the tube in 6 rectangular lights? Sort of a Cubic light if you will.

    • RE: Render - criticisms and suggestions please

The modelling looks really nice, but I agree with Andybot. Perhaps a different camera angle, something closer to what a person would see real-world. This will help the realism. Another suggestion would be to look at your textures. Texturing is just as important (if not more so) as modelling. For example the texture at the front entrance is very repetitive. Finally, lighting. Perhaps move the sun around a little to make the shadows a little more dramatic. Even adding in some ground plane with some vegetation (trees etc) will help cast some interesting shadows on the facade of the building. Once again though, the modelling seems nice and clean and pretty intricate.

Could you just lower the elevation of the infinite plane to allow you to see further into the model?
