Glossy Material?
-
a client wants me do create a glossy material like this for a logo. Any idea how? Simply by having a reflection I am not able to create this effect (and yes, I know the logo is a 2d vector graphics probably from Corel Draw, but the client wants something like this in 3D)

And keep in mind that the highlights in a glossy material are reflection of a light source so if you are going to render them you will need some Vray lights in a studio to get highlights.

I guess thats my problem. I positioned several VRAY rectangular lights around the object and even so I get minimal highlights in the borders...

I think another thing to keep in mind here. . .and I am no render expert by any stretch of the imagination, but the smoothy-roundy edges on the example images, plus the reflection of the light source in the highly polished plastic is what gives it that distinctive glossy look. I bet if you took your shape (if you can) and put some Artisan to it (although that might be out of bounds as far as your corporate required design goes) but iF you softenED the edges up a ways, and bumped the reflect/refract up pretty high, you would get that look.
Jus' sayin'. . .
Good luck.

ED: uh . .. kinda what RS just said above. So . ..do that!

It should also be noted that the example image is something out of Illustrator and not a rendering.

well, unfortunatelly, RoundCorners is barely working with this shape, even when only selecting the frontal faces and its edges. As for using Artisan, I have no idea on how to do that with this shape.
and soften the edges? You mean, after using Artisan? Anyway, Artisan is a Subdivide and Smooth upgrade right? I dont have Artisan, but with Subdivide and Smooth, I wasnt able to correctly round the shape even more. Its gets completely "bloby", although its true I am not an expert at Sub&Smooth, my impression is that it was created for simpler shapes?
Anyway, I attached the logo in the thread I created at the RoundCorner plugin topic... if some of you guys can download it and use Artisan at it, or at least use it in a little part of the file and tell me how its done, I might even buy Artisan...

Well maybe not artisan per Se, but i would definitely soften the edges with rounded corners or whatever.
Sorry I wasn't much help. But there are others who I am sure can help you solve this.D
