    • RE: Sketchup pro 8 image import lag

I just loaded up SU15 Make Pro Trial....which I have been close to pulling the trigger on just a little concerned about the plugins and other bits and pieces of software I use not liking 15. OK I'm a bit suspicious to see my image import problem disappear as soon as I fired up "make".

SU15 works perfect ๐Ÿ˜† ....not sure whether to laugh or cry...I'm probably about to get a sh*t kicking but I have my fingers crossed.

Being forced to upgrade, although necessary, seems I was dragged ahead with handcuffs and a blindfold....lol...thanks Trimble. I'll get up and dust off.

    • RE: Sketchup pro 8 image import lag

I have tested a new file with only a small box.
      file/import/use as a texture....lag........same
I use place holders as well but normally only for large ground images.
I have a pretty solid box (so far) good GPU good CPU...so I'm stumped

I use a small SSD but it has less on it than normal..it has always been fine.
      ???

This just started to happen today.

    • RE: Sketchup pro 8 image import lag

      Thanks!

I have large textures set although either way it lags for approx. 30 sec or more

I am trying to map an image to a face (as always). It is a straight jpg. Doesn't seem to matter how big or small....no dialogs open.

      memory issues maybe?

    • Sketchup pro 8 image import lag

Sketchup has ground to a halt when importing "as image" or "as texture."
      Any ideas would be appreciated.

The engine ...it is the modeling in that piece that is mind boggling. You could just about cook that anywhere and it would look amazing.

Once upon a time models like this inspired contests like the "30 minute model".
Speaking of bringing back old memories. I read your post Dave and opened Sketchup right away. I just see that beautiful little finial as a challenge.... ๐Ÿ˜† ...I'm working on it right now... ๐Ÿ˜ฎ instead of working on some other boring square stuff that pays my living.

      Thanks for making it!!

do you suggest that some plugins (as mine ...) running slower would be the consequence of an intentional reduction of capacity for ruby programs to interact with sketchup?

      No. ๐Ÿ˜„

    • RE: Lots of bugsplats in Pro 2015

I wish I could do more than confirm your sorrow....the 860m is a very weak card. The 4710hq is also getting a little old. Mixing it with the Intel GPU must also be a trick...up-to date drivers might help. You seem to be running some complicated applications. I don't know if they are using up your GPU...could be they do their crunching on the CPU. In either case you can move way up for a couple hundred bucks to a much better GPU and CPU.

Go here and you can look at comparatives and ballpark pricing.

Shut down the external ruby pipeline and hire a bunch of ruby coders. Now that would be a diabolical means for Trimble to make money wouldn't it? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

how far out there are you roland?

By some standards not very.....start Google Earth and go to Coldwater, Ontario.
Just the edge of the wilderness. If you wanted to get a look at where we live you have to fly over. There is no view from a public road.

One thing that will only get better..."Grandchildren". My oldest child Jillian her husband and my Grandchild Lily live on the same property as I do. We are a fair bit out of harms way now as we have moved into the upper woodland forest on property. My second son Ian is remodeling a cottage on our property soon. My oldest son lives even further into the bush....Dryden. They are about to have their first child...another grandchild for me.
So now that we are all tucked away I feel quite relaxed generally. You can't imagine how much fun it is just sitting amongst the trees.

ps:@mike ...Lily is a fierce Irish dancer.

Yes, and if you haven't yet try searching "taff" and you will see a lot of dialogue with the author.....cheers!
