There is also a K-Lite Codec Pack, contains a lot of codecs and comes in different versions from light to megapack.
The only thing is I understand using it if you need to decode video, but if you only interested in playback, then installing 200 codecs is not a very healthy solution π I used to do it until I discovered such players as GOM and VLC. (There are a couple more of similar players if anyone interested.) Both come with a build in codecs for all major movies, both work with DVD. Clean install and uninstall. GOM can also redirect you to a needed codec in case you did come across of something unusual.
Also updating is easier, when you deal with codec sometimes thay start leaving traces on a pc, and conflicts between each other.
