In the end the same results can be get with any program indeed. But in my experience VRAY is the easiest and above all the fastest render engine.

One of my newest components is an entire photo studio. Not needing light stands or power cords is a real luxury. I just pop the fixture silo into the photo studio, adjust a few lights and we have an image ready for the catalog. Client saw the final product and his first comment was, "this looks so real maybe we should go back and add the weld beads." [image: A69a_blu_orng_silo_4.jpg]

As a quick aside, I can't remember exacttly where the photo was taken, but im reasonably sure its in Devon (uk) and however wet and lonely it might look, it wsnt really that bad, I just didnt have a proper coat (won't make that mistake again.)

To be honest Roger, I haven't toyed with Kerky myself, so one of the KT regulars would be best qualified to answer how long renders would take, but I gather it depends on method used as well as scene complexity. I don't know if the Kerkythea forum is back up yet, maybe have a look there. Kerkythea can make use of as many CPU cores as you can throw at it - groovy huh?! To my knowledge, there are no 8-core processors commercially available. However there are machines equipped with motherboards that accept two 4-core CPU's delivering a 8-core machine. Be warned, they are freakishly expensive, due to the CPU's used as well as the RAM requirements (typically uses ECC RAM) and powersupply needed together with cooling for that monster. I just built myself a new 4-core machine with 4GB of RAM a week or so ago and as soon as I've got a little spare time I'm starting rendering.

Furniture grade oak plywood. I pencil everything out on the center sheet. Then I apply the stain so it just goes slightly over the pencil marks. That way there is a lot of raw wood to make a good bond with the glue. If you glue first the squeeze out will seal the wood so it will not take stain at the joints. Also you need to support the door evenly during glue up because the individual sheets will not resist bending and if they bend during glue up the door will be permanently ruined. I framed the pantry door nicely. The frame on the bathroom door is warped because I forced it. Somethime in hte next decade I need to tear it out and try again.
