Hi Dave
Up 4:45 am, Model till 9:00 am, build house till 6:00 pm, maybe a little more modeling, maybe a glass of wine till 8:30- 9:00 PM, down for the count... repeat... repeat... ( sneak in a little SketchUcation, and some grub)
But, as Dad used to say, you dig your own holeAnother Formica retro are those ones that used to come on the chrome kitchen sets.[attachment=0:3na32dre]<!-- ia0 -->Screen shot 2012-06-23 at 7.50.41 AM.png<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:3na32dre]
By the way, love the table
My schedule is somewhat similar to Dale's. It involves wait for weekend then drive 150 miles and repair newly acquired old house, curse original builder and after the weekend drive back 150 miles and spend the week planning the next remodeling attack. Hope to live long enough to enjoy the fruits of my labor. This week is dead as the jeep developed an oil leak and the gear box gave out. Today I limped three miles in 103F heat from the repair garage back to my house. That is not so far, but with the heat and gout the journey was infinite. I could see mountains in the distance called the "Estrellas". Old Spanish maps were marked "Journada de las Estrellas" meaning in Spanish "Journey by the Stars" with the implied ending "or the heat of day will kill you." Blessed are those who build and repair their own homes for they will be able to pass through the eye of a needle"

RE: Sketchup on 3D screens
With a fully expanded histogram, the image looks like this.
Damien does this read well on your screen?

RE: Sketchup on 3D screens
Damien here is the histogram of your file. No matter how my screen is set all of the visual imagery in your file is jammed down at the dark end of your histogram. -

Ok i was intreged with this post and said id try it out with 2 images i render from SU, heres the image below, now the only changes in this image are the cart and background sea so you can see depth by the sea and 3d effect with the cart, the camera position stays the same, use the cross eye effect to see in 3d

Has there being any plugin being created to give an output of 2 images with slight changes in camera position in SU, this is looking good for animations in SU i think
This renders so dark on my screen that I can barely see more than the headlights.

RE: Anaglyph 3d?
Interesting, this week end I had a meetup with a fellow former combat cameraman that is in town and working as a DP (Director of Photography) on a feature film called "Dead in Five Heartbeats." He is also an equipment designer/innovator developing his own line of 3D camera accessory systems. Over lunch we discussed a whole range of perceptual cues that go into 3D perception. It is not as simple as most people assume. In fact, 2D perception is more complicated than most of us realize. The nice thing with virtual models is you can go back to any previous model and add another camera and start playing with the possibilities.
An interocular distance of 1:10 is a good starting camera separation. Compare that to the separation between the distance between your eyes and the length of your arm. It is also very close to 1:10. Then ask yourself at what distance 3D vision would have been important in a million years of human evolution. Until very recently the length of your arm was the distance at which humans interacted with their physical surroundings so you did not need or could not use stronger interocular separation.
Hopefully I will get my home sold and my move completed so I can play with some of these 3D models.

RE: Water Bottle
Just some post pro to see what you think. The DOF simulation and opening up the tones in the top of the bottle are the most important effects. -
RE: A Thread for Fine Design
Interesting arguments. In fact veneer would be stronger and look a hell of a lot better. With the grain of veneer bending around the lamp the grain resists deformation by bending around the cylinder of the shade. For this reason the veneer is thinner. The turned piece has vertical grain and will easily separate along the grain at the slightest pressure and must therefore be thicker. Looking at the light transmitted through the wood, the veneer is produces a delicate and even look. The turned piece is thicker as it has to be and you can see irregularities in the form of tool marks. My preference is for the veneer.

RE: My Barbara Barry's inspiration
Where did you find the flying carpet? Looks like the left corner is revved up and ready to go.

RE: Split level concept house
Mottle the light hitting the driveway. Like light filtering down through tree branches Add some foreground framing.

RE: VR presentation of apartment renovation
Clearly you are from Sweden. I recognize the navigation arrows on the house floor. They use the same scheme on the floor of my local IKEA store.

RE: Huge Living
I like the way overscale baseboards and the thick wall. Having said I like the thick walls, what is the reason behind such deep walls?

RE: My place
I think I will have to get "Artisan" to model these doors for the great room. This is half of a set of double doors. -
RE: My place
Starting to install some of the furniture in the actual space. This is done with one light moved 7 times. -
RE: What Industries use SketchUp?
Editorial Illustration and in combination with photography.

RE: Iolani Palace WIP
Did you use layers? If so could you show the list of layers? Were there any features of the model that were problematic?

RE: I don't always need props, but when I do I use SU
Photo/model was finally published in the magazine of the Mendoza Business School at Notre Dame University.
