    • RE: [Req] Check for N-Gons

      TIG, i realise the current script only works in the current context (in a group etc.), it was on purpose as i thought it was more useful than only being able to check the faces in the highest context.

      On another note, does entities not include faces, edges etc. that are within components? If so that would explain why khai was having trouble with it...

    • RE: Importing Vector files from Illustrator

      Sounds like your importing it as a transparent png file. I dont suppose you can export it from illustrator as a vector file then import that in to SU? thatd be the quickest way, otherwise you'd have to explode the logo then trace around it to get the shadows looking good.

    • RE: [Req] Check for N-Gons

      Sorry i didnt reply, internet cut out.

      As jeff pointed out its not gong through faces that are within groups/components for some reason. This version will go through all the faces in the current context, so a slight improvement but not much better. Not sure why it doesnt work on all the faces in the model straight off πŸ˜•

      Here you go, copy and paste this in to jims/alexs web console and click run.

      model = Sketchup.active_model
      entities = model.entities
      selection = model.selection

      n = 0

      entities.each{|e|
        if e.is_a? Sketchup;;Face
          if e.edges.length > 4
            n += 1
          end
        end
      }

      if n > 0
        UI.messagebox("Contains N-Gons (Faces with >4 sides)")
      else
        UI.messagebox("N-gon free!")
      end

      Your wish is my command. Give me 5 mins...

      Version 3:
      works over the entire model (in groups and components), thanks to TIGs handy little snippet.
      Adds all N-gons to a new selection
      Tells you how many N-Gons there are in the model
      Added a Tri check which can be accessed by typing tri_check() in to the ruby console

    • RE: Help with bump maps

      Are you creating a copy of the texture image and naming that xxx_bump5.jpg ? the duplication part is important, as podium needs a separate image for the bump and diffuse (coloured) textures.

      p.s. you only need to post once.

    • RE: Creating a template

      Its pretty easy really, just set up a blank SU file as you want it, save it somewhere then go window->preferences->template->browse and select your template.

      SU will then load this each time you start SU.

      If the stripes are on flat ground writing a plugin to make the stripes would probably be fairly easy, just a matter of persuading someone its worth while...

    • RE: Hardware question - Tablet

      Ive tried it a couple of times but i always found i needed it in full tablet mode for it to be comfortable, which meant i couldnt use the keyboard for shortcut keys which slowed me down a lot. If youve got a desktop setup with a keyboard plugged in i imagine you'll have more success though.

      I beg to differ. In my opinion the developers of SU are a very hard working bunch who want to produce a good product that helps people get their jobs done.
