    • RE: Center Object

If I try typing that it gives me invalid length entered.

Edit: I guess it depends what measuring units you're using, typed 0.0.0 and it worked, thanks!
Edit2: Seems like the last place I typed 0.0.0 gets memorated and whenever I type that again it moves it to where it was, but not in the center of the axis(origin)

Is there a way to center an object to the axis origin?

      Thanks!

    • RE: WIP GP 9 LOCOMOTIVE

Very nice, you could try to keep it under 50,000 polys and be able to enjoy it in Rail-Simulator and make use of the time spent!
I've been also wanting to do an American locomotive, is there a blueprint site that stands out? I'm not too inclined in doing the common SD40-2. Cheers!

As a railfan I sure do envy the fact that you got to smell and hear (and clean) the delightful SULZER 12LDA28 engine.

Thank you all (si salut Romanilor!)
Originally I had planned to make them for Microsoft Train Simulator/Rail Simulator so I was limited to 50,000 polys per model, this particular locomotive is my 2nd model since I started using Sketchup, the rest will follow up soon in the 'textured bin' (hopefully). Thank you, the textures are originally from photos (70%) and the rest I had to cook up myself. I'm hoping the others will look a bit better though.

      Thank you kindly!

Well, originally I modeled these engines in hope that I can convert them for use in Microsot Train Simulator and/or Rail Simulator hence why I kept them under 50,000 polys (that's the graphics engine limit per model) I think the average work-hours per locomotive is 18-20.. I did two in one week.. and I've been postpoing the texture because the game requires a square UV texture map..

I got something alittle better than line overlay.. I hope. The Sulzer 12LDA28 2100 HP Engine fade-in.

are these all modelled in sketchup?

Well yes, otherwise why would I be posting on this forum, thanks.

How do you achieve line overlay, I'm thinking export the 2D image of the model and overlay it onto the rendering in Photoshop?

Also, here you can see the models real life counterpart:

Beginner here, some locomotives I did.. all are under 50,000 polys and ready to be textured, enjoy!

    • Organic modelling

Hi all, after using Sketchup for afew months I have to say it's great for mechanical models but now I wish to do organic modelling such as Dinosaurs and I want to ask, is there a plugin that makes creating such shapes easier? I strolled the plugin forum but so far haven't found anything, thanks!

    • RE: Daniel V's Renders

Hello Daniel, great modelling. I'm a MSTS user too and have made 4 locomotives in SU that I would like to put in game, what's your procedure, do you export the model from SU to Gmax and texture it there? I need some help with my work and I would certainly appreciate if I get any, thanks.

is there a UV mapping plugin or something like that? I searched but didn't find anything but I'm desperately hoping there is, or a 3rd pary UV mapping program that works well with sketchup?
      Thanks.

    • RE: Locomotive

Thank you, I already made it relatively detailed but since I didn't know the polycount I called it done, some details:

      http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/3903/53417025pr4.jpg

It's going to be exported and put in Microsoft Train Simulator so I have to texture it but first I have to regropu everything and it's a pain. And some panels dont quite fit but its too late to correct. ๐Ÿ˜•

How does one optimise the model besides soften edges, if possible?
As my first model it has tiny gaps and such and I'm trying to prep it up for texturing, also about the groups, i have too many (over 200), just clicking expand will elimiante the group (but not the item that inside)? I wan to delete all groups and start regruping everything properly, how do I go on with the task? Thanks for having patience.

I see alot of info but I'm not familiar with these statistics, which is the entire polycount of the model?
