    • RE: UV coords

I'm trying to form a workflow between Zbrush and SU, and I'm told SU doesn't recognize the UV coords, test model with UV coords generated in Zbrush (AUVtiles), texture and displacement map: http://rapidshare.com/files/246740925/x.zip.html

    • UV coords

Hi all, say you export a model with texture + uv and want to import it in SU, I'm told the UV coords don't get translated when importing into SU, is there a way to make this work?

      Thanks!

    • Texture size

Hi all, is there a way to increase the maximum texture size? 1028 is really limiting.
      Thanks!

    • RE: Tris to Quads

My plan is to do all mechanical modeling in SU, import it in Zbrush and subdivide it without the smooth option on, make the texture and add surface details.

    • RE: Tris to Quads

Actually, I plan to use Zbrush to paint the model and add small details such as imperfections, scratches and such on non-organic models, not really sculpting or subdividing as I noticed, like you said, it doesn't really work unless the quads are pretty even (for smooth subdividing), but I don't have any alternative so I have to make this work.

I'm sure as I get more ambitious with my modelling that I will need to subdivide what I import in Zbrush but as there is no way to automatically transform a model into decent shaped quads I don't know..

      Thanks.

Khai and all who contributed, thank you very, very much! You saved me from a huge-huge problem. It works absolutely brilliantly!. So basically as long as I split Ngons into triangles or squares I'm ok, thank you again!

    • RE: Tris to Quads

Hate to be a pest but is there a clear solution on how to export/edit/re-export from another program a SU model so that it can be usable in Zbrush?

      Thanks for your time.

I tried to export it to blender and then to Zbrush and still, nothing.
I attached a model as an example.

      Thanks.

..I would try what you said if it were more explicit (I mean, retard proof), I'm not really technical savvy, I'm just trying to model...

      Thanks.

(missed some posts while posting the above message)

Yes, I know the 2 are very different programs but isn't there a program that I can use as a "middle-man"? SU can export in so many different formats there must be a program out there that can import the model, adjust it to suit Zbrush's needs, but the question is which is that program?

      Thanks.

That did nothing as far as I can tell.

    • RE: Tris to Quads

I'm sure I'm not the only numbskull using this program combo, it would be a huge relief for me if my SU models worked fine in Zbrush, would save me months/years of learning a new 3D program.

      Thanks.

Yes, the program I'm talking about is Zbrush, it can only import .obj
I'm no tehnical expert so excuse me if I mangle technicall stuff, all I know is that exported models from SU are not usable in Zbrush, I googled first and others have this problem aswell so I guess I'd ask you guys since you do miracles.
      Example:

    • Tris to Quads

From what I understand Sketchup uses triangles, now, I want to use a model exported from SU into a program that uses quads (squares) but when importing the mesh looks screwed up, is there a way to convert tris into quads?

      Thank you.

    • RE: Center Object

You work fast, that's for sure.
I'm not the most experienced person to answer these questions but I'll give it a go.

From my perspective it's fine to run on groups/components only, but if you say it adds that much more appeal to work on on bjects too then go for it, if it's no trouble.

      @unknownuser said:

If the selected component/group is rotated, should the script re-orient it to the world axis, or leave it how it is?

I think it's more useful if the script centers it but doesnt rotate it back. Adds a bit more flexibility, I think.

Where should the plugin install itself? To the right click menu? or the plugins menu? I prefer the plugins menu only, but some people really like their right click menu to be full.

I would say/prefer in the Plugins Menu, since my right click menu got a bit too big, but it's up to you, whichever works.

    • RE: Center Object

I don't think it's worth making a script just for this, I thought there was a way to center the object to the origin some way with what's available in sketchup as I do not know all the functions since I'm pretty new, obviously. It's crucial for me to export the model exactly on the origin. So unless a plugin is made just for this it's pretty much impossible..?

      Thanks!

    • RE: Center Object

The plugin doesn't center the object to the axis, the center of the model needs to be on the "origin", the plugin just moves it next to the origin.
