is there a plugin that converts every face of a geometry into a component? So that afterward those faces can be controlled parametrically once they're laid out and edited and so that the normals for the face would be perpendicular to itself and not the axis when it's created? And are there any plugins that can parametrically control different components? i.e. windowizer?

Convert faces to components?

RE: [REQ / IDEA] For a new section tool
Maybe it can be controlled by an extruded line as well. In Revit they have section cuts that can be controlled by a single line that can bend at certain areas. Wish Sketchup can do something like that as well .

RE: Windows 7 and sketchup
I've noticed on different forums there was a major bug with using remote libraries on a networked computer running xp or something. Have you run into any problems using networking access or mapped network hard drives ?

RE: Joint Push Pull Classic (Old version) - v2.2a - 26 Apr 17
I know that this question doesn't concern the joint push pull plugin - however i've noticed that certain geometry can be push - pulled in a very visual and intuitive way when concerning pure geometry. Is it possible to do the same with 3d splines? Except instead of push - pulling them you would offset them? Fredo and Chris Fullmer are probably the masters concerning sketchup plugins - so i was wondering Fredo, do you think it would be possible to create? here's the link to the forum where there are visual examples. Thanks in advance.

RE: Shortcut Bug
Hey, i found the problem - whenever i search for a key word in the shortcut - it doesn't find it, when i input the location of the actual menu it doesn't see it either, but when i put the first letter of a word in the plugin it shows only one function of the plugin (rotate around blue, rotate around red, rotate around green)...it shows up when I put the word re in the search menu, but nothing else works. its a bit odd. I wonder why that is?

Shortcut Bug
Hey Guys, for some reason at one point in time - the shortcuts that showed up in the preferences menu before for some reason doesn't show up in the shortcut menu anymore. I'm not sure if that is with all the plugins - but for some reason there is a particular function in the edit/item menus that doesn't show up in the preferences shortcuts. On one computer i was able to set up the function to have a shortcut key, but for some reason now i can't find it. It still shows the shortcut key in the file menus but no longer shows up in the preferences where shortcut keys are assigned. Is there a fix to this? or is there something I'm doing wrong?

RE: You Decide Competition!
hey guys, what about something like transformable architecture. i don't know if this will be too difficult to pull off, but its worth a try.

RE: Windows 7 and sketchup
The 64 bit programs - are there performance gains over 32 bit except for the fact that it supports more than 3 gigs of ram ? . Btw, what's bonzai?

RE: Windows 7 and sketchup
That's pretty good news. What about as a rendering platform - i.e. vray, brazil renderer...etc...
The reason i ask is because its the only issue that i have so far with Vista. Just curious, do you like it better as a platform than xp sp 3? -
Windows 7 and sketchup
Has anyone tried using sketchup on the latest build of Windows 7 release? I'm curious, does it still crash like it used to on startup?

RE: It is a BUG
That Wii remote thing is pretty brilliant. I'm actually trying to set up something similar on my tablet pc. Instead of using separate buttons for the functions and shortcuts for the commands i am using a program called stroke-it - where particular gestures can recall commands stored in the preferences of any program - including sketchup. The ideal scheme is to get it to work with all the programs - photoshop, vectorworks, illustrator, Sketchup, maybe even 3d max....although thats a bit more complex . I'll hopefully finish imputing the commands by the end of the month, maybe ill have something to show soon .

RE: Is it possible to offset a 3d spline?
Actually now that i think about it, it could be a new function for lathe - given if it can take every custom angled edge on the area that it follows and uses this offset tool to follow with for the lathe tool. Don't mind me guys, i'm just dreaming. lol

RE: Is it possible to offset a 3d spline?
There is also a very interesting way to be able to control it intuitively without a web based dialogue. I don't know if this is possible if you were to create a small resizable square along the nearest vertex you click to offset the line and intuitively resize it or snap an edge to constrain the 'follow me' function and then simply offset the distance of that particular box along its edges. I'm always bad at explaining things, maybe i can show it in a picture once more. lol

RE: Is it possible to offset a 3d spline?
Yep, thats what i did in that image that i posted before the last one. . I was just wondering if this can be automated.

Hey Chris, I just wanted to thank you for your help either way. Your tools are more than great, and i just wanted to show you I really appreciate your advice. Thanks a lot man.

RE: Is it possible to offset a 3d spline?
i know, what i meant to say a perpendicular line to each edge preceding the vertice that way it isn't constrained to 3d space. its like taking the follow me tool and using a square to follow the a constrained geometry - i.e. a square. The distance of the height and width of the square would determine where the offset line would go. Maybe like this? (p.s. the determining factor i used as the follow me constraint was your perpendicular face tool , which is really great)

RE: Is it possible to offset a 3d spline?
I think the best way to do it would be to have a line or construction line at the vertex between each bezier edge to guide the path for the new line. I.E to every vertex a perpendicular construction line would be created and then based on the distance guided by those construction lines connect the dots - and get an offseted line. I mean that is how it works with the tools on surface - except it already has a face. I think a picture will say it better than me.

RE: Is it possible to offset a 3d spline?
when you create a bezier spline - it usually does it based on a 2d axis constraint. I.E. it does it along the xy, yz, or xz axis - or along a constrained single face. However when you have a welded spline or a bezier spline that is oriented in xyz - i.e. a bezier spline that starts off of xy and then slowly goes into the z axis. Maybe a picture or a sketchup file will help.

RE: Is it possible to offset a 3d spline?
I think that's how an offset works. All i know is that with an offset the endpoints tend to be parallel to each other - not necessarily exceeding the length of the spline. It could definitely work - just so long as the distance can be controlled in a small dialogue or something .
