RE: Metal Spiral Stairs - how to do it?
No offense to all you spiral stair makers but the wide stairs that you show with winders coming to a narrow point would be very dangerous (especially in descent). I would suggest a bigger inside hole or solid radius to assure a minimum tread depth. That's why typical library or residential stairs are quite narrow in width so as to keep a person in the middle of the tread with proper depth for the foot. Such wide stairs with point winders would be prohibited by code in the US, even for non-egress stairs in commercial stuctures.

RE: Can you make layers retrospectively?
You can make layers at any time, but remember ALWAYS to draw objects on Layer 0. Then make groups or components and move those items to another layer. Layers only control visibility, the do not separate geometry. You can quickly control what layers you want to appear while working by making scenes and assigning what layers are visible. In your case with the existing models, simply group the vegetation and "move" it to a layer. No need to start over.

RE: That plugin that 'expoldes' all components..
Smustard has bomb.rb (free) that explodes everything in the model:

RE: Who else is buried??...
Our brave little East Nantmeal Township got cited by The Weather Channel as getting the most snow in the Delaware Valley yesterday (26.8") which also means the most snow in PA. That's on top of 24" saturday. Not a pretty sight.

RE: Who else is buried??...
Ditto to Adam. We are about 15 miles east and got 24" this weekend -- snowing now and predicted for 20" more. Should make for some nice pictures.

Wow Eric...scary and beautiful at the same time. Alabama is not known for it's tornadoes that I know of. Is this a rare occurrence? In PA, we've had a couple small ones in recent years, but nothing like in the Midwest plain states. Too many mountains and valley's up here.
I remember a real tornado in Montgomery County PA (near Limerick, suburb of Phila) back in the early 90's. It ripped aluminum siding from industrial buildings, drove a sofa through our office block wall, and killed a family with a baby. They found the baby's savings bond far north in Allentown, PA. Scary, more powerful than most can imagine (the aluminum siding was actually torn, with rough edges!). Hills and valleys don't guarantee protection.

RE: Quick & Easy "Dennis Method" renderings [TUTORIAL]
Dennis, the whole sketchup community, myself included, are greatly in your debt. Way back you effectively showed us how to achieve great NPR images very quickly. ..."never in the field of rendering have so many owed so much to Dennis"....

Gaius,
If you could edit Gretchen's first post that would be nice. -

I am new at this, and I do not know what PM actually stands for. My email address is... Please write to me directly and I will fill in the information you need. Many thanks, Gretchen
Sent you a PM and separate email as well. Please heed Gaius' advice and remove your email address from your posts - just edit your post.

Sussed the problem I was having by using the follow me tool tutorial
but I dont seem to have any plugin link, when I click Window I can see Ruby Console, but that's all I can find. When I see other peoples versions it has a plugin link at the top?
Thanks
Go to menu: windows/preferences/extensions/ and turn on ruby examples -- then you will get the plug-ins menu.

RE: [Request] Randomize Plugin
Check out TBD's randor.rb - just what you want for randomizing tree sizes and rotation. Best used in concert with drop.rb.

RE: Commercial use
Google explicitly states that you can use SketchUp Free version for commercial use (as pointed out by Gaius). What could a reseller (of the Pro Version) possibly have to say about the Free version except maybe to get you to buy the Pro version?
