RE: USA Politics - TV Talking Heads
'Credible News Source' is a relative term.
As far as Rush goes, Rush is to the GOP as Bill Mahr is to the Dems. I do find it fascinating that when Mahr attacks conservative women no one raises an eyebrow but rather defend his right to free speech, but when Limbaugh says something he's lambasted across the media as a hate monger.
Ah the power of an unbiased liberal media. It's only free speech if they say it.

RE: Any long term architects, designers, illustrators, modellers
I've been practicing architecture for about 18 years and the only answer I can give you is that it all depends on the client. I've had clients who couldn't visualize plans and elevations and were willing to pay for renderings and I've had clients who refuse to pay for them. Most residential projects don't have the budget for detailed renderings but when I worked on large scale projects (retails, commercial, etc) they wanted the works.
Sorry for the long winded answer, but even during the bubble, it always depended on the client.

Getting ready to buy vray or should I wait
Howdy folks,
After checking out some of the rendering solutions available and being a long time Twilight user, I've decided to purchase Vray, but from reading this forum it seems quite a lot of you are having some issues with it.
Should I wait till they fix these problems or take the plunge and wait for the updates?
Thanks,

Building new computer, which CPU would you reccommend?
Howdy folks,
I'm going to building a new computer and was wondering which CPU to purchase, either the Intel 3960x or 3930k. I'll be using it for rendering, photoshopping, etc. The programs will be Twilight, Vray, Vue, Photoshop, and Sketchup.Do the tech gurus here have any opinions. Thanks in advance.
Thanks,

Dang Kris, Your views are extreme, actually scary.
I live in Texas an do not believe I've met anyone with such extreme right wing rhetoric.
But mocking peoples religious beliefs is perfectly normal, not scary at all.
Sigh...Move along, these aren't the droids you're looking for.

RE: They should not be given a lawyer
Oh Krisidious, you poor, silly, ignorant boy. How dare you defend the US. We're nothing but a bunch of capitalist pigs that are greedy,lazy,self-indulgent boors who are unaware of the world around us. We love to attack anything plus we love to rape and pillage the resources of every country that doesn't bend to our will. Sigh, you really need to get your priorities straight.
Of course if you can read this you can thank a teacher, if you can say this in your native tongue you can thank a US soldier, but that's besides the point.

RE: Help please...I need to spend some money fast!
Tom,
I noticed on your website that you're a Staff Architect. If you're not a Licensed Architect, why not purchase the materials to study for the ARE and work towards your License. That way you spend the cash and in the end you're also a Licensed Architect.
By the way, I love your rendering style, very impressive.
Take care,

RE: Been saying this for a while...
You quoted Fairleigh Dickinson University also known as Fairly Ridiculous University...good job with the research.
Waiting for more nuggets of genius insight.

RE: Final project:Architecture:Institute of the Conjuring Arts
Congrats on graduating from Architorture school!! I remember those days fondly, good luck with your future endeavors. I can always appreciate a good presentation.
The architect in me does notice that your bridge structure image shows the cables in compression rather than tension, the arrows should be reversed.
Great visuals and these images will certainly help you when you're detailing sections and other details. I've always loved the details and these images do you a great service.
Good luck!

RE: Please recommend a good, not too expensive video editor
Solo,
I'm looking at Cyberlink as well. I record in 1080i @ 60fps and from some of the reviews I've read it seems that anything past 20 minutes causes software problems. Have you experienced this also?I've been following their forum and it seems Ultra 64 can process 60fps but it starts to stutter after 20 minutes.
Will download the free trail and see if it suits my needs.
Thanks,

Merry Christmas and things to remember this season
Merry Christmas fellow Skup'ers and remember to enjoy this season along with some great advice...
Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that 's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.
Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.
Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!
Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.
Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!
Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?
Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.
Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!
Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.
Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.
And remember:
'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a ride'

RE: Tip jars, really...
I'm with you guys, I worked my way through college waiting tables and always took pride in doing a good job. That's why I have no sympathy for people who treat me like a buffon when they're relying on tips. You need to earn my money the same way I earn my money.
Seems like common courtesy is becoming less and less common.

Tip jars, really...
So I picked up some coffee this morning and the emo-hipster that was 'working' there was offended that I didn't leave a tip in the jar that had the handwritten 'tips' written on it. He muttered under his breath about a tip, and I responded "Here's a tip, earn your tip".
Am I alone in thinking that tip jars are usually useless because of the lack of service that is associated with me standing in line then being treated like a moron by the person on the other side of the counter?
Sorry for the rant.

RE: Material folder organisation... + thoughts
Thanks for the reply.
I actually did delete the folders in the Materials folder, but when I restart Sketchup and press the materials icon, it takes about 1 minute and it rebuilds the missing folders and the material files all are the same 'light chocolate' color. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I consider myself pretty adept at sketchup so I'm quite confused about this.
Thanks,

RE: Material folder organisation... + thoughts
I'm bumping this post for the same exact question.
How to delete certain material folders and not have them appear when I restart sketchup.
Thanks,

RE: Twilight baby steps
Here's an updated image per the recommendations I've received. Very simple program to use yet has great depth. In my limited time with this program its already made me very excited about the potential this program holds.
Thanks,
