Material folder organisation... + thoughts

Hello
I'm on mac SU7, i'm trying to:
-
get rid of preset libraries: i am manually deleting them inside SU, then getting rid of the folder once its empty. When i relaunch SU, it has recreated all preset folders, and rewrote deleted textures even in folders where i created my own...How can i remove folders and texture permanently?
-
backup my material folders: i just can't seem to be able to find the right place where its stored on the mac...Please can someone tell me where components are stored ( i want to replace preset by mine) and where materials are stored too so i can back up my precious own materials.
Also would like to know why the library ( materials) gets so slow with 50-60 materials that all use small jpg's (max 250 kb each).. I'm on a octo Nehalem mac pro with 16 gb ram and find it a bit strange to have to wait 30 secs between material libraries switch ( from lets say concretes to woods etc...)
thnx much
N.
PS: would love a way to import a folder containing selected jpgs and create direct textures from that folder..

Messire, I moved your post to the corner bar. The Component forum is for posting components, materials, styles, etc, that you would like to share with the community.

Your component library path should be.
Macintosh Hardrive/ Library/ Application Support /Sketchup 7 /Sketchup/ Components

I'm bumping this post for the same exact question.
How to delete certain material folders and not have them appear when I restart sketchup.
Thanks,

Navigate to the location of the folder, usually via the path shown by Dale for Mac or C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp X\Materials on PC. Delete the folders you don't need. If they aren't there, they can't load. If you want to keep the materials for possible future use, you could rename the folder(s)

Thanks for the reply.
I actually did delete the folders in the Materials folder, but when I restart Sketchup and press the materials icon, it takes about 1 minute and it rebuilds the missing folders and the material files all are the same 'light chocolate' color. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I consider myself pretty adept at sketchup so I'm quite confused about this.
Thanks,

Yes this is what we're talking about> the material folder and the useless preset materials are rebuild whatever you do upon restart/reboot of the software....I wonder if we could get an option to get rid of them for ever so we can choose what folders we want and what is inside...
By the way the biggest pain is the slowness of the material pannel when u reach 30+ materials in each with 200 kb images ( small)so slow it becomes unusable...has it progress in the SU 8 version ?
