the glass panel being blue and not transparent made me wonder what is going on in your model.
You had me going for a minute there Dave, but ran some more tests. The panel is definitely glass on both faces but the camera angle would only reveal the back panel of the cabinet and none of the edges or side panels. I attached a shot from a another angle which shows the change in shade where the base and side are visible-but still no shelves.
Thanks for your replies
Yes I'm still on SU 2018 Dave, I usually wait a while before upgrading to see if it's worth it and for bugs to be ironed out.
Maybe it's time I had another look if stacking viewports is now an option, although there seems to be more visibility in just the hybrid view.
Yes the cabinets are blue, thankfully I am past that schoolboy error these days, but a worthy question nonetheless.
Hi all
Is there a way to show the edge lines of glass shelves seen through a glass door and have textures visible. I have attached a screen shot of a kitchen wall unit on which the left hand door has a glass centre panel of zero thickness and a transparent 'glass' material applied to both faces. The right hand door has no glass panel and the glass shelves extend behind both doors. The shelves are not visible behind the glass panelled door and I am looking for a way to do this without having to have to remove the glass panels each time. I also use the same scenes for rendering so I don't want to be fiddling with layer visibility each time.
The scene is rendered as Hybrid in layout because I still want to show the textures.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Nick
Hi guys, sorry I haven't replied yet, I've had no internet all weekend.
I have cleaned up the model and uploaded it as SU version 8
Thanks Dave, that would explain why I can't find anything. There are a lot of them about in this part of the world.
I will have to get some front and side photos next time I come across one.
@nlipovac thanks but I don't think photomatching would work with the shape, not enough straight lines and no known right angles.
Would anyone know of where I could get hold of detailed plans for this chair. I can't find a model of it anywhere so I want to model it myself.
Thanks
Pyscho, that's the one. Updating profile very soon. Soonly soon..
Dave, how did I know it would be you to first answer this question...
Spot on thank you that worked. And no I am on 2018.
Thanks again
Nick
Hi All
Maybe a stupid question but does anyone know what this symbol is that has appeared in my scrapbook window? Its a black rectangle with an arrow type shape in it.
Thanks for reminding me of Fluid designer Pilou. Just gave it another try but runs slow on my machine. Also takes you away from the native Blender interface which I don't like.
Very interesting Chipp and well timed. I have dabbled with Blender on and off and like most people have struggled with the steep learning curve and UI. You make a good case for both, but how do you think you could replicate having a library of SU components in Blender that can be dragged and dropped as easily? This functionality has prevented me from trying to move to Blender. I have looked at the 'append' function but it still seems a bit long winded. I design kitchens so I have a large collection of cabinets saved as components which are dropped into models very quickly in SU. I would be happy to invest the time in learning Blender if I could find a few workarounds.
Nicely put together video by the way.
Thanks Dave that's a good point. I need to update my templates anyway with the onset of the new EU data protection laws coming in.
Thanks, but I've just had a Doh! moment. Just found the 'Background' check box under 'Styles' in Layout. Was concentrating too hard on the styles in Sketchup.
Thanks
Hi all,
I can't understand why sometimes the background within the bounding box of a view inserted onto a layout page is transparent and other times filled. This means that if the views overlap in the latter, the background can obscure an adjacent inserted view. The styles appear to be the same from one file to another but there must be some reason for it. I prefer the transparency as in the attached screen shot but can't seem to control it.
Any ideas?
Is that a chicken or egg situation? If you can't update through SU then we have to start thinking for ourselves to find solutions
Yes Thank you Box for that, it seems to have worked for me too. How did you discover that fix? Annoying that Trimble haven't sorted this from SU2017
Found it. Somehow a text label within a group got placed way off in the distance instead of on the object. That made the group massive and harder to select to isolate. Now deleted and behaving as normal.
Thanks for your help Dave
