That way the texture is visible in SketchUp and I can UV map the surface, but won't render in V-Ray. Then I add additional diffuse layer underneath which will be visible. I used the method in these renders: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=333&t=44822 I used it for stuff like the road with the water puddles and the chrome fender with rusty spots.
