    • Windows 8.1 - SU2015 - small status bar text and tools

Just got a new laptop, win 8.1, installed SU and I have a few funky screen issues. I did search the forum but could not come up with any answers. The issue I'm having is the status bar and all tools show up super small, the tools are hard to use that small, and the measurements in the status bar are unreadable unless you use binoculars. Has anybody come across this and is there a solution to this?
See screenshot. Laptop is an Asus UX301 with Intel Iris 5100, 2560x1440 resolution.

Skalp 1.0 was released today. haven't installed yet but they say it is 2015 64bit compatible.

I can verify Skalp is running on 64bit with no issues - just completed a CD set last night. πŸ˜„

    • RE: Does the amount of video memory matter for SU?

Hahaha... I somehow knew this would turn to the Mac vs Win issue eventually. All joking aside, I'm a huge MAC fan and think the platform is far more stable and superior to Windows. But there's no denying that a superfast Win box is superior for SU. We're running SU on both Macs and Win and when it comes to large models and large SU files, the Win machine wins - granted it has a slightly faster processor - but double the perceived SU speed.

    • Lumion or LumenRT?

Price aside, I'd like to hear from people currently using either or both or have used them in the past. Looking to add animations to our presentation arsenal. If cost was not an issue, which one would you choose? From the website, it appears the feature sets are pretty comparable.
Thx in advance for any input.

Does it work only with imperial units ?

No, both imperial and metric, remember the USA are the only idiots people still using imperial.

For a global monitor that is a pretty cheesy comment.

But true! The truth hurts πŸ˜‰

Researching new boxes... Does the amount of video memory matter to SU? In case... is there a performance impact on a 2GB vs 4GB video card in a new iMac?

Curious to know what the performance is on this machine. Need to get a new box at our office. New iMac i7 or Boxx Apexx2 are the choices. Any input appreciated.

I'm following you, but just like you, all i get is sft and can't get cubic feet with a smart label, even after grouping.

    • Smart label question

So I've been using smart labels in SU for a while, mostly to callout sf of slabs, tile walls etc etc. Currently working on an excavation plan and have several volumes that I thought I could use smartlabels to callout the volume... Can't figure out how... All I get is sqft or edge lenght! Is there a way to do it and am I just too shallow to figure it out πŸ˜‰?

      Thx,

    • RE: OSX Yosemite is coming...Problems?

I've been running Yosemite Beta since V3 - been having issues under 3 and 4 with SU crashing constantly when using the outliner. Beta5 made earlier this week seemed to have fixed the issue and I have not had much time to test since the final version was released yesterday. Will do some more testing over the weekend and report.

After another week of testing I can confirm that the issue is related to the outliner. When outliner window is opened, or open while working, models crash in Yosemite.

    • RE: Where are the Edit and Add new materials on the MAC version?

Dave - great suggestions on creating new materials - I will definitely start using this method. Thx.

      @dave r said:

Once you have the materials "In Model" you can drag their thumbnails down to the palette, the grid area at the bottom of the Window. Then switch to the desired destination library and drag the thumbnails up from the palette.

My preferred method for creating a material in the first place (on PC and Mac) is to use File>Import to import the image and apply it to a face I've already drawn that has at least one dimension already set for the known dimension of the texture. This allows me to skip the step of editing the dimensions of the material after importing. So for example, if I have a wood grain texture that is 8' long, I import and apply the material to a rectangle I've drawn that is 8' long. The width takes care of itself and so I don't need to worry about that. When I am importing new wood grain images, I might have 3 or more from the same log so I just make multiple rectangles first and apply the materials to them.
