I do this ALL the time. I am constantly gobsmacked that nobody seems to use the most obvious tool for the job which is Fredoscale. It works on several levels for this kind of alteration which is so perfectly suited to furniture manufacture that anybody who uses SU for furniture design and does not use Fredoscale all the time needs their head examined. [image: iqTk_standardhooterstable.JPG] I manufacture tables for Hooters in SA- this is my model of a standard high table which comes in a variety of sizes depending on restuarant. [image: dkNv_fredoscale.JPG] Resize all the relevant components in the table without changing the ones which should remain as they are. Ie. the edging on the top, the leg section width, the corner rails, the overhang of top to frame. [image: KgGL_voila.JPG] I the use cut list plugin to get a 100% accurate cut list of this table which is sent to the machine shop with one click. I challenge anyone with whatever software or method to accurately alter a cut list for a table to a new dimension in fewer steps and with as complete accuracy! Fredo has simply changed my life. This is just one of the many ways the tools can be used- hope you go download it and start using now. And also make use of the very handy donate button in his sub menu

Going forward, I think it would be a good idea to make sure you create a group or component of the geometry you've drawn before moving on to the next part of the model. This way you can prevent the problem you've experienced from even happening. Be systematic in your drawing. If you are drawing a trailer and then the ramp, make sure the trailer is a group or component before you start drawing the ramp. Or if you are drawing the individual parts of the ramp, draw one part and make it a group or component before moving on to the next part. Use components at least for parts that will have multiple instances or that you want to save for reuse.

@merc said: I want to show an exploded view of an assembly, using guide lines to show where points will be connected. In Layout you just draw the lines.... the inferencer will usually even link to the underlying SU model correctly. Set the dash style and you should be done.

Welcome, merc: A simple suggestion: Check out the options in the Help drop down menu: Tutorials, Learning Center, Videos, etc. Good luck to you.

Hi Merc and welcom, That is a great start; I like the tool chest. This is a great forum to help you learn SU. One thing I have learned it to get familiar with layers and scenes; they will help you keep your model organized. Also, on the woodworking end of it check out the Design, Click, Build Blog at Fine Woodworking: http://www.finewoodworking.com//blog/design-click-build. You also might want to download models from this site and the 3D Warehouse and go through them to see how they are made. Jerry
