Did you try running the plugin from your local machine, instead of the network?

I'm not great with understanding the ruby console yet, but I had it open, and it showed no output.

Yes, I tried it by removing everything aside from the default extensions that ship with SketchUp, and installing JBB_LP to the default plugins. Still no luck. It's weird, I cannot figure out what's going on with it. Everything works fine until the Group button is used, then bam, dead.

Ok, no luck. Even removing all plugins, and installing only to the default plugins directory, same behavior. Everything works until I try to create a Layer Panel group, then most of the UI elements break. Any thoughts on what I can do to help track down what my computer is doing to this thing?

❓ hmmmmm. I've been going through and doing a clean network install of plugins and testing them 1 by 1 to make sure they work well in 2014 (with the new move to Ruby 2). I'll get to disabling all the other plugins and testing Layers Panel solo. I'll let you know!

      Thanks!

Ok, tested a couple times, and I can't quite pin down what's causing the issue. It behaves slightly differently in a couple files. I've attached a txt file explaining more in depth to keep the thread short, and a couple of example models.

This is a the model where I had the issue.

This is my default template file.

I wrote this and tabbed it in Sublime Text, so it should be organized, let me know if it's not.

Using the latest (1.1.0), yes. I just removed it from the folder, restarted, and am reinstalling to see if I can nail down what the issue that triggered it is, or if it was just a fluke. I'll keep you posted 😄

Thanks again Jiminy-Billy-Bob! This plugin is amazing! I do have a request (unless it's a feature I missed). Would there be any plans to be able to select and group multiple layers by holding Shift and clicking like in Photoshop, then hold Ctrl and remove one or two?

Not sure if it's already coded in, and mine isn't working for some reason or not. Just checking! Thanks!

EDIT: Right after posting, just realized most of the UI isn't responding. No crashes, no hangs, it just doesn't do anything.

Stuff that works: Moving layers, visibility, current layer toggle, render toggle, lock layer, move selection to highlighted layer, select highlighted layer's entities.

Stuff that doesn't respond: Everything else.

Tried restarting both SketchUp and Windows, but to no avail. Strange, it was working just a few minutes ago.

    • OpenGL Driver

      Hi guys,

I just upgraded to SketchUp 2014, and I have a quick question. It loaded by default with OpenGL driver #(either 197 or 397), and it looked absolutely fantastic, worked great. I normally switch drivers to #40 (Anti-alias 4x) on previous versions because that looked and worked mostly smoothly. I did this, and now the previous driver is no longer available. Any thoughts on why and how the option for that driver would disappear after changing it, and is there any way to get it back? I've already made sure that all my videos drivers and everything are up to date. Is my best course just to uninstall and re-install?

This should have one more option, #197 or #397. I can't remember.

      Thanks!

      Matt

    • [Request]: Normalize/Reset UVs

      Hi Guys,

I'd love to try writing something like this, but I'm nowhere even close to knowing how to start it. I'd love to see if it's possible to write a script that will selectively reset the UV scale of textures of objects that have had the scale tool used on them.

I'm actually hoping to use this on Dynamic Components to reset scale of textures after adjustment. As I understand it, this is one of the current limitations of DC's. I'm creating a series of DC's for the firm I work for, and while we don't really use a lot of textures for windows/doors and such, it'd be nice to be able to embed wood grain and compacted earth textures that don't get wildly distorted after we're done with adjustment.

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts or questions! It'd definitely be something I'd be willing to pay for, how much can be discussed.

      Thanks!

      Matt

      @matte said:

First I learned, When I saved my SU rendered image in a PNG format….I get JUST got the central object image, The SU background comes in blank!

      • So I exported in all JPEG form and I got the full Image (the one I am posting here.), But my quality level dropped ALOT! So is there a better way to save?
      • Another option I am going to try is to use the higher quality PNG image only version and overlay it in Photoshop on top of the background image. I am guessing, if the back ground is Low res and your SU rendered image is Hi res, it will look “fake”, same in reverse as well.
      • So I think In photo shop (I’m a beginner in as well), if the SL image is on one layer and the background is on another, you can individually raise and lower the contrast, brightness and quality (graininess) separately until they “match” before mixing them together onto one layer? Any advice greatly appreciated, otherwise I will keep you posted of what I learn so maybe it might help someone else down the road.
        Matte

      Hi Matte,

Welcome to the rendering world! Couple questions: What rendering engine are you using? Some of the answers you seek will change based on what renderer type you're using.

I usually render out to .TIFF to keep as much information as possible from the render as long as possible. They're much larger files, but they're also uncompressed and loss-less, so they're usually the file type of choice for me.

In Photoshop, you can adjust the brightness and contrast (and many other properties) separately on each layer by using adjustments that are "clipped" to layers. Check it out here: Clipping Adjustments to Layers. The quality, though, as you said, is not something that you will want to adjust dynamically while working in a file. A general workflow is to render, post-process, then save down a separate, down-sampled version for posting or your final product. That's a very simplified version of course, but as a rule of thumb you never want to alter your quality until you're done, lest it introduce artifacts and quality loss issues. Hope that helps!

    • RE: Maxwell for Sketchup - Sky is black

Judging from the last image you posted and the capture of your settings, I'd recommend changing your "Optics" settings. An fstop of 39.6 is fairly uncommon (most lens that aren't specialty top out around f22), and adjust your shutter speed to something more realistic. Shutter speed in your settings is set to 1/.02, which isn't something you'd ever see in the real world (again, Maxwell relies on realistic settings for its light calcs). Maybe start with 1/30 and go from there?

It doesn't look like the file is getting errors, and your sky isn't quite "black" as you say. The image is just severely underexposed. Hope that helps! Also as a quick note, for interiors, Maxwell will render significantly cleaner and faster is the interior isn't completely sealed from the outside environment. Transparent materials don't contribute, so try to have one portion of the model open to the outside, perhaps, behind the camera or somewhere out of sight.

What happens if you change the Section Cut edge weight? Does orbiting change the view at all?

Orbiting has no effect, and oddly enough, changing the line weight only changes the dashes lineweight, ie the missing bits are still missing.

It looks to me as if you're using a line style that has a Halo setting and perhaps a relatively low Level of Detail setting.

The Halo setting is only available in Sketchy Styles isn't it? I'm using a modified version of the default style with essentially everything but lines turned off.

      Also, using v2013. Still stumped.
