Thank you for the wonderful pictures. Maybe one day we can all visit each other in peace and mutual respect.

      Let's hope!

I tried the script. It does create a rectangle, yet not intuitive enough. Rest did not work for me, but a good start.

    • RE: Urchin the Australian lunar village

      Thanks, mates.
Here is a more detailed description of the project I shared on my LinkedIn, I saw it as a feasible Sci-Fi movie:
      Urchin Shell Lunar Village:
When I started thinking about living on the Moon, my very first question was: "how can an astronaut truly feel good there?" Not just experiencing a dry and technical mission, but a place filled with life and meaning.
Throughout my design process, I tried to balance imagination with realism, innovation with constructability — what I call “the most optimized/balanced point.”
      For example:
How can we create greenery that not only provides food but also shapes the interior atmosphere? My approach was to integrate genetically engineered plants along the walls to maximize both productivity and visual comfort.
And how can we design compression structures that are truly buildable on the Moon? Human history shows us that dome-shaped forms, even in the most remote places on Earth, can be constructed with minimal resources. This logic became the structural DNA of my project.
In the masterplan, I had to strike a balance between connection (for efficient use of shared facilities) and distance (for safety and robotic maintenance). The solution was a triangular–hexagonal grid, both flexible and highly optimized.
This principle of optimization is visible in every detail of the project:
A spoon that also works as a knife,
Triangular plates and trapezoidal tables that allow multiple configurations,
Flexible work zones designed for both individual and collective activities, anticipating a future where robots and augmented reality will redefine human tasks.
Urchin Shell is not only a lunar village that demonstrates the intelligence of its creators, but also a vision of a new quality of interplanetary living — where engineering, psychology, genetics, and avant-garde bio-technologies converge.
It represents a legacy for humankind: for those who finally had the courage to step out of the cradle. And yet, no matter how far we go, Earth will always remain our unique and irreplaceable mother — with all these new experiences ultimately dedicated to her protection and flourishing.

Mates, mates... You made me burst into tears. Internet blockage was severe, and it is somehow back (many new websites are added to "out of reach list"). A hole Iran is suffering a big trauma... many lives lost, brave, beautiful young people.... unlived lives.. unflourished futures... fighting for a simple life.. so that ends meet... is it too much?...

      Thanks @bep @l-i-am @mike-amos and @mtnarch for your cooncerns.
It seems this is gonna be the last presence of the US in the Middle East for at least the next 2/3 decades. It will not waste his time flirting with mullas.... Their ideology is dangerous. I hope that world takes Iran's story as a lesson, not letting an ideology (especially Islam) take over... IMO World would be a much better world if ruled by wisdom and knowledge. Islam (to my understanding) has never been the religion of peace.... When I see Muslem extrimist in EU or US, I feel upset, and wish EU/US prevents its growth.
@mtnarch people of Iran, mainly, like and admire US people. Many of my good/smart friends had to emigrate to your eminent land. Who knows, maybe I had to/opt to either...

    • Reviving timber constructions.

It has been some time since I have been busy with a revitalizing approach to the arched and vaulted structures, reimagining them in contemporary or future contexts. I think the same process is applicable in timber roofs as well, and here is the process I go for (reviving the system):
Simplifying the question (system) and breaking it down to aspects,
evaluating those aspects and their relations (validating the system),
reimagining them based on the previous steps.

One of the core concepts of the roof question (IMO) is to break down a wide gap into smaller spans. The other is to break it into triangles and rectangles and cover those shapes. There are specific "types" of roofs, and they combine in "specific" grammar.
There is a mainstream tradition regarding the latter question, and here lies my answer: what if we think differently and combine the "types" in a different "grammar"?
Arches and timber roofs share a very similar approach to span the gap as a roofing system, which is why I strongly believe these steps apply to timber structures as well. We can revive those "specific" types and their "grammar" to reach novel combinations.
Here is a glimpse of the idea (pattern) I follow.
Please leave your comments and let me know if any description is needed.
(Can you see the logic shared in the first two images and follow the logic behind the rest?)

It seems Iran (rejim) will soon face the music; this way, they will feel what it is like to be defenseless! This would be the finish point to a chapter of history! Let's see and hope to meet in a free Iran!
I appreciate all good memories, help, support... You made here...
