Excellent lighting, and I like how the entourage doesn't distract from the subject (building). One thing that bothers me is the perspective, the vertical lines on the building all aren't vertical. Maybe try two point perspective.

The three point perspective bugs me as well...almost always. Though I believe that Podium cant render a two point perspective.

    • Night Render

      Hello All,

Back to rendering days (for a bit) after a long time. This time I tried Podium v2. Love the program for its simplicity!
The images below are 'SU native', 'Podium Bake' and 'Photoshoped Final'. I rendered using the night style and exterior_QMC. It baked for 16h45m at 5028x2097. The images here have been reduced for web viewing. Thanks and C&C welcome.

      Best,

I go by first reaction. In this case I was impressed. You've hit on a light wash look which is exactly how watercolour can be used. The line work sits well back and the stylised trees work really well. I think you got it right. As for the sky, you should fade to a pale yellow in the far right...have a look at Thomas Schallers work
I do agree with Davidh about adding more to the foreground and creating that dark/light/dark/light layering with shadow. But you're well on your way.

Thanks for your comments and suggestion. I was trying to achieve an evening scene hence a brighter yellow in West (far right).

I think what you really need here is some shadowing. It can help break up large areas of colour into different tones of the same colour. For instance, some foreground shadows on the road cast from trees behind the camera. This will also result in the foreground being darker than the middle ground where you want people to focus(in this case on the building) Remember shadows are not simply β€˜black’. Use darker tones of the colors in the objects, or dark complementary colours.

I would also add some texture to some of the materials, maybe a bump map or even some paving slabs to the pavement. This will also help break up areas of continuous colour.

Finally, and this is just my preference, I would increase contrast and saturation in order to get the image to stand out.Dont be afraid of having dark areas in the image, thats the only way for the light areas to really work

here is a tutorial I did last year on post processing

An attempt at NPR. Various_SU_styles>photoshop_layering>Fotosketcher>photoshop_adjustment. Critique please? How can I improve? I have stared at the image long enough and it seemed a bit flat to me. I struggled with NPR sky as well before settling on this current version.

      Something is messed up.
The slider is around 'Noon' but the display is showing 7:50 AM??!!!!
...and the cast shadow is neither like what is expected to be at noon or 7:50 am on a June morning in Portland, OR?!!!

Thanks for the ideas Jean. always helpful...πŸ˜„

I guess what i'd like is something like in AutoCAD.

      • there is osnap toggle (on/off)
      • you can set what all you'd like to snap to....endpoint, midpoint, intersection etc etc
      • and at the same time you can force it to snap to anything (by context clicking)as well...

WOW!! Thanks for showing enthusiasm guys!! Very much appreciate the tips as well.
Pixero: that is exactly what I am looking for.
It took about 60 hrs to render at 2000x1200 before I was ok with 'noise' levels... 😞
This project is on the back burner, so I'll be able to get back to it later this week
All window glass was set as exit portal. Environment is sun and sky
Outside image was added/adjusted in PS
and then finally slight adjustment using curves (actually a biebel trick if I can recollect properly)... πŸ˜„
      Thanks!

    • RE: Fry- Indigo- Vray- Kerkythea- Maxwell- Podium (added page2)

Nice exercise. I have been wanting to do something similar for a long time to better understand idiosyncrasies of diff. rendering engines, mainly indigo/vray/podium for me, but never found time...not even on a weekend.. πŸ˜„
really impressed by vray time vs indigo time.
      Thanks!
