I must admit i did not really go for tutorials when i first started learning blender.

Even if this modelling time lapse isn't what you want to model in Blender i think it says more about modelling, approaches to modelling and retopology (after the z brush bit) than quite a few of the tutorials i have subsequently watched.

If in doubt just start modelling a hand in mid air and end up with the right number of edges to join to the arm! Using the sculpt brushes to shape the low poly mesh e.t.c.

      it was definitely, mind blowing.

If detail is what you are after you can use a multires modifier and shrinkwrap on the retopology. shrinkwrap setting project positive and negative.

    • RE: Sketchup and Blender

      Hi,

You might be better off not trying to clean your mesh but just build a retopology on top of it even if you are not planning to bake maps. There are a few options, looks like you have found one of them, another is a shrinkwrap or bsurfaces but the failsafe way is just to use the snapping tools. I have done this a few times with MOI and sketchup models to build a proper deforming mesh for animation and doing the retopology allows you to concentrate on edge flow e.t.c.

Slow at first but done enough times it speeds up, just like anything, especially with the looptools and F2 addons.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards

    • RE: Sculptor in a need of a help

      Looks like an interesting project,

I think you might find it tricky to get anyone to help as it is only you that knows what the volume of your sculpture is. There would be a lot of guess work involved.

      Good luck though!

Some of the blender video tutorials on you tube are actually incorrect.

Personally i would recommend signing in to blendswap download a few models in the staff picks category and reverse engineer them.

I'm sure with your skills you will get an understanding within no time at all.

I think the main thing i would like to see is just a better viewport performance on larger models........

Failing that UV tools would be good.

You can use VRay I'm sure you can handle nodes in Blender.

    • RE: What Software to learn

I would try Blender and Moi. I did.

I ignored most of the features in Blender and concentrated on the modelling until i was used to the hotkeys. From then on it was easy to integrate the other features which work better on a well constructed model.

Moi is just extremely logical. Read the PDF UI descriptions in the manual which are very clear and as a Sketchup user you should be good to go.
