It was I who wrote this question back in 2012 and I haven't worked with any 3D-visualization since then. But I have missed it a lot and I'm thinking about start again. So I have been playing around with free version of Sketchup 2015 and Maxwell Render. And it's about lights again. Is it impossible to create a nice render of a kitchen interior with the free version of Maxwell Render? Are there better performance and options available in the paid version?

If I do a room with a big box in Sketchup and open one side. I then create some spotlights and point the face downwards inside the box, I see no light at all from them! The outside light is sky without the sun and time is set to evning. Shouldn't there be any light?

Is the paid version of Maxwell Render worth the money or are there any other free or low cost renders out there that is better? Renders made by SU Podium seems very realistic, especially the of interiors. Kerkythea is free, but I guess there has been no development with that since the release in 2008?

OK, now I can change the settings for the grass, but I don't get any grass when I render the scene!? Hmmm, I still have some problems and I preciate some more help.

I'm using Sketchup Make 2014 and I'm testing the free Maxwell Render. But I don't get the Grass or the Sea options to work! I only get a empty box with "no selection"! I have tried to create a group and select it, but nothing happens! What am I doing wrong?

Hi! I downloaded a free demo version of V-Ray for Sketchup a few days ago, I just wonder for how long I can use and evaluate this software? I can't find any information on the Chaos Group page or is there some other limitations?

How do I use transparent png images of a tree in free Maxwell Render? I have replaced all the white area around the tree and made it transparent, but this isn't working! Help is preciated! Thanks!

I guess I have to drop this idea! I was planning to use it as glass on a balcony front, and when I used the Automatic, it got so pale and not the colorful that I was hoping.

Regarding a earlier thread, is this how you ment, to ask different questions about Maxwell Render in only one thread? To reuse an old thread? But what if someone has the same question, and can't find it due to another topic headline, then the person write a new thread?!

I have a new question about the free Maxwell Render. Is it possible to make color glass? I have tried both Glass and AGS in the Scene Manager, but the glass only gets transparent! I have also tried to use Lacquer and change the opacity, but that doesn't work. Ideas are welcome!

Thanks for the offer, but after I made it as a component in another file and then imported the component with the texture it's working, for now.

Hi! Thanks for the help so far! But I'm still struggling to get this to work. Most of the time when I'm importing an image to use as a texture, I don't get the option to explode the image because when I'm right clicking on the image, the option explode is grey!

And despite that the Entity window says it is a face, it not visible in the renderd image, just the in one color.

I'm doing this over and over, but what am I doing wrong!? Preciate some more help! Thanks!

OK, thanks for the reply! So, it's a bad idea to make a interior scene with a camera facing towards the outside when using sun!? Would it be better with just the Physical sky or Sky dome and use some emitters? But then I don't get the nice sunlight on the floor

Should I forget about doing a interior scene with the free Maxwell Render? Preciate some tips before I'm put a lot of work on something that won't be good.

The more I use the free Maxwell Render, I really enjoy using it and I think the final images are nice. But I have some questions about colors. When I'm using a SketchUp material that is white (RGB 255, 255, 255) and let the type in Maxwell Scene Manager be Automatic, I get nice white walls.

To my furniture that are white in the scene I use the Laquer in Maxwell Scene Manager, but despite that the color is white with a RGB value of 255, 255, 255, it's getting ligt grey! Not that that pure white color I get from Automatic type. If I use the Automatic to the furniture, to I get some miner error in the rendering!

I'm doing a scene where the camera is outside of a house facing towards the facade and through the window glass.

I would preciate some help to get white colors white when I'm using Laquer or perhaps another type?

I'm doing a scen where the camera is just some meters outside a house facing towards the livingroom. I'm using physical sky and sun, but to get more light inside, I tested to use the ceiling as an emitter, but I don't get the result I was hoping for. It's the same as before when I only used the sun. The emitter is set to 100 watt and I habe tried to increase the value. Isn't this working or can I improve it in some way or do another way?

I also has a TV in the room with an "TV" image on it to look relistic. Can I use an emitter for the image to get som light from the screen and get a more realistic screen?

Thanks for the reply! I have just changed the color to be darker. It's not a texture, just plain color material. And I have pressed the refresh button several times, but it still render the old color!? Help!?

Yes, I tried to use the Purge Unused and Fix Problems, but that didn't help. I had to copy and paste all parts to a new file. It would be interesting to know what went wrong to prevent this from happen again in the future!? Thanks for the tips!

I have also tried to save it as an component, but the same thing happens! Any tips what could be wrong? And is there any thing I can to? Remove more objects? I'm aware that SjetUp have some limitations when it's about memory, but home many surfaces could a model contain, before problems occurs? I have 4GB on my computer, but I guess if I had more memory, SketchUp wouldn't be better!?

It's getting late, I have to let the computer be on and hopefully solve this problem tomorrow.

I have a big problem! I can't save my file! Every time a try to save it, Sketchup crash! I have tried all kind of things like remove components and explode components, in case it has to be about lack of memory!? The problems began when I imported a small image to put on a surface. I have also tried to remove this image, but still can't save my file. The only file I have is an autosaved version.

I'm trying to locate unnecessary surfaces and edges, but it seems like there is a lot of them that I can't see. I can see them in the components window, but can't delete them there.

I can't continue my work and would preciate all the help I can get to solve this problem!
