    • Looking for advice or direction for side work.

I am looking to see if there is anyway for me to put some of my hard earned skills with Sketchup and Layout to work for me. I would rate myself somewhere in the middle of the heap as far as skill level is concerned and after about 8 years of using the software I still enjoy playing around with it. It's an essential part of my work day so I'm lucky I'm still having fun making drawings. I'll spare you the details about what I do but most of my work involves surveying and creating drawings for manufactures of Archieteural grade terracotta on historic buildings in Chicago and the Mid-west.

My question is, Is there a market or neich out there for freelance draftsmen somewhere in the realm of Interior Design? My dream is to find part time work building models, and creating deliverable images / drawings of interiors they can use during conceptual phases of a project. Of course my net is rather large at the moment. I'm open to anything that involves SU, Layout and part time work.

I'm honestly not sure if this is the correct forum for this kind of question. If you can point me to a community more in line with this sort of question I would be very grateful.

      Thanks!

    • Decorative Terra cotta Shop Drawings

As we're moving into the slow period for my work I need to brush up on my drawings. Having never been to school for drawing/architecture I don't have a lot to build on for the drawings I make. I would like to move closer to the common standards used through out the manufacturing and design communities and I'm not sure where to find guides.

Please see the attached document. It's an example of what I send to the architect for approval and the manufacturer for reproduction. The majority of my work deals with individual piece types varying in complexity. I rarely draw elevations, interiors, etc. Can anyone point me towards resources that will help me refine my drawings?

    • RE: Dimension Style Mystery Change

I was able to get my settings back to where they were, but for some reason the stroke will read that it is set at .5 when I've selected it, but when I am actually using it, it changes to 1pt. I believe Layout is doing this to mock me. ๐Ÿ˜„

This only happens when I am behind the 8 ball.

    • Dimension Style Mystery Change

I don't know if this is a bug or me accidentally clicking something I'm unaware of but it happens often enough and drives me a bit insane.

I use the default settings for dimension styles for my drawings. Every once in awhile that all changes mid drawing. I will go from solid arrows at 2pts, stroke - .5, Veranda-Italic-10pts.-black. Suddenly it all changes to no arrows, Arial-Regular-8pts.-grey. I can change back the arrow setting easy enough, but I can't seem to find where changing the default font setting is. ... and why is this happening?

My back is against the wall at the moment and admittedly, I haven't (but now will) read up on the manuals.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    • RE: A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members

I thought I would put this here since I am and always will be a newbie + this is a setting problem that was discussed in this list earlier. Hope it helps.

I was having problems with Orbit and my scroll wheel button on my Logitech MX 1100. I did a palm/face when I finally figured it out. If you're having troubles go into your System Preferences window at the bottom should be a row called Others. Open up the setting window for this mouse, select 'click' for scroll wheel button and them configure the click to 'Middle Click'. Simple as that.

    • RE: [VOTE] SCF COMPETITION - Design Ideal Work Desk / Station

I wanted to vote for The Sketch-U-Table in a big way due to it's use of materials. I certainly will build one of these. It's a great design. However, the wiggles entry is much more what I had in mind when I think of 'Ideal' station. I think it's as visually as appealing as it seems useful. This took me a while to make a final decision. There are some great concepts here.

      Nice work everyone.

    • RE: Paint bucket - whats happening here - film

That's the exact same thing that is happening to me. Thanks for posting the video. It shows the bug perfectly. Try using Follow Me and see what happens.

I believe this was happening to me right from the start, before installing any new plugins, but to be honest, I can't be 100% certain about that.

Gaieus, thanks for replying on both forums. I hope we can get a fix for this.
