Just wondering if anybody has tried, or if its even possible to save or make a panoramic image using the photo textures tool in Sketchup.
The images are already panoramic, but it seems you can only select regions of them for texturing puposes. Be cool if you could save them to use as backgrounds.

RE: [Plugin] TIG-Smart_offset
excellent time saving tool, thanks Tig.
where would sketchup be without guys like you, tom tom and fredo. -
RE: Creating a 3D Wall Panel
Also can use fredo's curviloft skinning following 2 paths. fairly low poly result.
Actually, the result is exactly the same as in gilles method.

RE: Visability bug, cuts buildings and white areas. Urgent!
Ive also been wondering about this problem. Usually I can work around it somehow. Get the area in question into view from a distance that isnt clipped. Then switch to 2 point perspective view and you can zoom in infinately. This isnt the solution for every case though. At the moment Im working on a model which has been drawn over an imported cad file.
The person who drew it diddnt set or correct the scale, original wall thickness was 100,000 metres, as apposed to 15 centimetres. after rescaling I wound up miles away from the p.o.o.Ive exploded all groups and components, imported the geometry into a n empty scene and resaved. but I cant navigate closer than within 100 metres from any view/angle except 1. -
Su based web space planner
I hope this is the right place for this topic. Im wondering if its possible to make a web space planner based on sketchup and lightup.
So somehow people can input their room dimensions in 2d plan view, then texture it and insert icons for furniture, plants etc. This then would generate a 3d model rendered with lightup that they could explore in realtime.
Is it possible? Id pay someone if they could help with this. -
RE: Roof tile script
Hi guys, thanks for the response.
Yeah I know it would be really heavy poly wise for sketchup.
I've been using a method similar to what you mentioned. I modeled a single tile, then copy pasted until I had a large tiled area, using the shell tool to make all one object. Then a few rows up I made the under side flat to reduce the polys and make easier positioning. Then I cut the the roof segs using flat planes from each face of the roof pulled into a box, and use the trim tool.
works ok but real slow.
Ill try looking for the roof texture from manufacturers. maybe can use them with toms bitmap to mesh script.
Thanks -
Roof tile script
Hi, Ive been trying for a long time to find the best and easiest solution for making roof tiles. there are a few scripts and plugins for 3ds max, but exporting the mesh to sketchup can be messy if it even works.
Ive tried modelling tiles in sketchup and it works ok, but takes ages.
I was wondering if one of the ruby experts could have a go at making something maybe similar to this maxscript.http://www.avizstudio.com/tools/atiles/ If I had the time to learn ruby I would try, but I and Im sure a lot of other people would get a lot of use out of something like this.
I would be willing to pay for it, or donate to the developer. -
RE: Importing geo located models
Hi Gai,
I've tried again with models of Sydney and most are still loading in their correct location.
However some, although already geo located with terrain, are not.
Not sure why this is. Could it have something to do with which version of sketchup was used to make them.Keyston

RE: Importing geo located models
Hi Gaieus,
I just started with downloading one model, selected load into sketchup, checked that it was still geo located, then downloaded a few more, selected no for load into sketchup and saved.
Later when I tried to import them into the first model they diddnt have their location, they just imported like a normal component.
But if I make a model of a large building and divided it up into separate files, then merge them into 1 again, they know where to go, ie - ground, level 1, 2 ... -
Importing geo located models
I'm trying to make a backdrop of an existing city(Jakarta). When I download geo located models from the warehouse they aren't going to their correct location. they just load like any other imported model.
Ive checked the use geo location in the entity info.
Before I have tried to do this with another city(Sydney) and on loading, a dialogue asked if I wanted to preserve the location. Now there is no dialogue.
Any ideas whats going wrong.
Thanks in advance. -
RE: [Plugin] Bitmap To Mesh
just found the answer to my first question, projected texture. much easier

RE: [Plugin] Bitmap To Mesh
hey, excellent tool, similar to the terrain editor in vue but with your script you can work to a scale.
2 questions;how do you map a texture to a non flat surface in su?
I usually un soften/smooth edges and muck around with the eyedropper in the material toolbar which is a long process at the best of times, but with the hundreds/thousands of faces generated using this plugin thats not an option.I was also wondering if it would be possible to use a bitmap from an object in your scene to generate the mesh, say like you have texture mapped a cube for example, with 1 texture on all faces, you select the object, then generate mesh on all the mapped faces.Possible? too difficult? Just an idea from someone with no idea.
Thanks again for the plugin. -
RE: [Plugin] Edge Tools
Hi Thomtom,
First, thanks for your hours spent making all these plugins. its a wonder google dont take some onboard for future su releases.
I not very technically inclined when it comes to 3d terminology, just want to ask about importing terrain from google earth (get current view ), If I get a few views all slightly overlapping, then explode and toggle terrain, I get holes and overlaps and mess.
Which one of your scripts is best to clean this up? Edge tools or cleanup rb?
Also in su 8 get current view is no longer in the google toolbar?
