    • Web Viewer with pop up info capabilities???

Are there any sketchup web viewers that would allow me to post a model to the web and the user be able to click on an object and information on that item pop up?

I have a few models that we are creating interactive maps from. Right now we are using 2d images of 3d views. We are pleased with the results but we are going to end up making a minimum of 4 separate maps so that the user can rotate around the model to see the map from all sides. A 3D option would be a great help.

      Thanks in advance.

    • RE: Topo generation question

      Thanks for the reply.
I was able to get better results using a program that limited the distance of the triangulation lines and then bringing that into sketchup.
Ultimately though we ended up sending the file back to the surveyor to obtain additional break lines to use. We were able to get a usable topo.
      Thanks again

    • Topo generation question

Is there a method or plugin that will limit the distance a triangulation line travels in the z direction?

I have a very difficult terrain which has a series of very steep road edges. The sandbox tool and toposhaper plugin are not yielding usable results. Toposhaper grid can't be made small enough to accurately display the steep slope. Sandbox tool is jumping multiple countour elevations to triangulate.

Alternatively, perhaps there is a plugin that will divide all of the topo line segments to a maximum distance that could be set at 6 inches or so. This would eliminate much of the contour lines being jumped over.

      Thanks

    • RE: [REQ] Rope/wire plugin

Would it be possible to use a slightly modified version of the ivy plugin for wrapping rope around an object? You can get a single strand by playing with the parameters.
I attached a screen shot of a very quick try.

    • RE: [REQ] Rope/wire plugin

I was asked to help on a ropes course project a while back. I was trying for a 3 strand rope. I never did come up with a good method and they ultimately just used sketchup line work for their illustrations.
I felt like I was getting close to a good workflow a few times.

I think Helix around curve could be modified create multiple helix and then a line to tube ruby could be used. The problem I had was easily creating multiple helix for multiple strands that worked correctly with the diameter of the rope. The helix has to be adjusted based on the diameter of the rope

I think I attached my test file? I tried anyway.
      Hope that helps someone.

      No problem,
I don't post much, I probably need to alter how I view the board to see the most recent instead of just looking through the different sections.
In the process of placing photo textures on a small city block. Have to find an alternate method.

I did look through the last few days post, thanks for asking.
I am guessing that it is posted somewhere else that I missed.
      I'll look again.

I don't know if I follow you completely.
The group was 642 miles away from 0,0,0. The groups origin was right with group,(Model info/components/show axes) not way off far away. The groups origin moved with the group to 0,0,0.

    • RE: Strange Behaving File

I ran through the list of suggestions. Turns out the model was 642 miles from the origin.
There were no other apparent issues. I moved the model to the origin and that has taken care of the field of view issue when editing a component.
The disappearing faces jagged lines are still an issue. The issue has changed slightly. The site is grouped together. The jagged lines and disappearing faces issue is there until I enter the group, then everything goes back to being smooth with no disappearing faces. Before it was jagged and disappearing/reappearing faces all the time.
      Thanks for all the help!

I exploded the group containing the site model and the jagged lines and flashing/ appearing disappearing faces issue disappeared.
I regrouped them and don't see any issues?

Thanks for the suggestions. I really appreciate the help.
I initially (prior to posting)did most of the suggested items without any luck.
I'll go back through the suggestion and see if anything helps.
Gut feeling is that is the distance from the origin.
The client is doing the initial cad import and setting up a basic site plan.
I'll report back once I have gone back through everything that has been mentioned.
      Thanks again

    • Strange Behaving File

      Hello,
Not sure this is a bug, but it is at least strange behavior, and I am unsure what is causing it. I figured this would be the best spot to post.

I have received two files (skp) from a client recently that are exhibiting strange behavior.
I have only experienced the behavior with files from this particular client.

Lines that they have imported from CAD are jagged and as you rotate around the model the appearance of the jagged line changes. It becomes more jagged in spots and less jagged in others. Like they are jumping around or jittering.

Faces appear/disappear as I move around in the model. These aren't faces right on top of another face or anything like that. Single faces just disappearing.

When double clicking to edit a component it disappears. This is not a view/component edit issue. It is as if the field of view has changed. The entire model disappears when I double click the component. If I zoom way out I finally see the whole model but it disappears when I zoom all the way in. Exit the component and everything is back to normal.

I would think that there was a graphics card issue, if I had not tested the file on multiple computers. I have also in 10 years never encountered this behavior with any other files. I have copied and pasted everything to new files with no luck.

The file is too large to post. 20+MB

Thanks for any input you might have.

    • RE: Sketchup On Surface Pro?

I run sketchup on a surface pro.
There is an issue with the driver from intel that causes bugsplats. There is a lot of discussion in the google groups. The issue arose after a windows update. I restored my system to pre-update and have no problems. I haven't taken the time to determine if the issue has been fixed, I just turned automatic updates off.

    • RE: Sketchup Components to 2D CAD Blocks?

I am capable of exporting to dwg or dxf.
I am trying to get my model into CAD as you describe ISO TOP, side, etc., and have the components in my model become CAD blocks, not the model as a whole as a block. I need all of the piece components to be CAD blocks. Currently I only get lines.
If I have a complex pipe gallery with a number of fittings and export to 2D cad it would be useful to have those fittings come into cad as blocks vs just a bunch of lines.
I am looking for a possible workflow, to accomplish this.
      Thanks

    • Sketchup Components to 2D CAD Blocks?

For a long time I've been looking for a means to get my sketchup models into 2d cad while having the components become blocks. Haven't had any luck. I figured I would ask in case I have missed something. It would be great to get some tips if anyone else is accomplishing this.

I design water and waste water treatment plants and use sketchup in the preliminary stages for design of the piping, building and equipment layout. Our drafter refuses to use the 2d cad exports from sketchup because the pipe fittings aren't blocks, which makes changes in CAD difficult.

SU saves me weeks in design time, but in the end I am unable to get the full potential of the 3d model because I am unable to get it into CAD in a useful format that we can use to generate construction plans. I end up printing dimensioned drawings from SU as a reference so that our drafter can redraw them.
      Thanks

    • Export to DWG without hidden lines

Just starting using layout. Taking a 3d model of Water Treatment Plant and handing it off to drafter to make construction documents. I am setting up the sections in Layout and exporting to dwg to give him.
Is it possible to export to DWG as a vector without lines I have hidden in the model showing up?
      Thanks for the help!
