I am seeing the black line as I move object up and down. When I move a object up or down and it passes over other groups additional copies of the moved object get copies to the groups being passed over. Is this correct? Please see http://youtu.be/bSfunWgQRUI for a better understanding.

Your assumption is not correct. YouΒ΄re only getting copies because you Β΄dropΒ΄ the group into a component that has several instances. At that point the other components get instantly updated.

Re-installed win7 x64, SU2013 and gfx drivers 314.22. Problem still exists. Updating the driver to 320.18 is no solution either.

I just noticed in SU V8, when moving something in the outliner, a black arrow would indicate your current position in the stack. In SU 2013 that black arrow is gone and you have to take care (the artifacts don't help) not to move something to the wrong position.

    • RE: PDF to DWG and then into SU

sometimes a pdf doesn't contain real vector lines but an image of vector lines instead. Maybe that's why the conversion generates 2 files and you get the error.

If that's the case you can try some image2xdf programs or trace them by hand.

Does it happen if you switch of the Aero theme and use basic theme?

Thanks for the suggestions. Disabling Aero and using basic theme doesn't make a difference.

I just installed SU2013 on this machine and at the same time upgraded the Nvidia drivers. I checked and now I have the same problem in SUv8. Must be a driver issue or something because I've never seen it before.

Rolling back to a previous driver 314.22 doesn't fix it. Tempted to just re-install windows and cross-fingers.... if I only had the spare time...

    • Gfx - outliner trail

In SU 2013, moving an object down the hierarchy in the outliner leaves a trail while keeping the mouse pressed. Moving an object up the hierarchy doesn't but sometimes displays artifacts. Once released it's gone.

Using a GTX560 TI, drivers up to date, hardware acceleration ON, fast feedback ON.

      Anyone else experiencing this problem?

    • RE: [Plugin] SectionCutFace

Sketchup is getting better and better thanks to you guys! πŸ‘ πŸ‘

The new automatic glue option made me wonder.. have you considered, besides of using a solid color, creating the possibility of using the backface material (texture) of the faces ?

Like that the front faces of the walls, window frames, slab floors etc (all solids of course) could have a 'visual' texture on the front faces and the backfaces could use their corresponding hatch textures. Especially with the new glue-option it would be amazing if the section would 'automatically' be texture mapped with all the corresponding hatches.

During the design process I manually texture the section cuts (only for the final documents I manually create real line hatches) and the above would be a great time-saver.

      Anyway, just a thought.

      Greetings!

I tried using SketchUV to map the trunk of a tree made with the plugin 3dArcStudioTree. I hoped cylindrical mapping would work. Do I have to go the 'roadkill' way or are there any other options to try?

      Brilliant indeed!

The plugin is also very good at making 'low' polygon count trees. The picture is a tree made of nearly 3k faces and 6k edges (mostly the trunk and 3d branches), the leaf size is maximum with a branch texture applied to it.

    • RE: SketchUp 2014 Wishlist

      my wishlist:

      1. customizable dimension styles in Sketchup: hide extension lines, maybe components for the leader lines/endpoints -> By dimensioning in Sketchup I can be absolutely sure the dimension points are spot on and not snapped to something 'hidden' like if I would add them in Layout. Nobody can afford mistakes like that in the building industry.

      2. enhanced uv tools would be nice: planar mapping / box mapping / cylindrical / fit selected faces / uv unwrap etc. -> I haven't found any workflow with plugins / external programs that fit me (like in the old days in 3dsMax)

      3. performance enhancements. For instance: you always have to close the Outliner before you run some scripts. If you forgot, the execution of those scripts is really slow.

But the lenght of the brenches in fact are varying based on their position on the tree as you are asking for. This is managed by the "tree shape" parameter (pyramidal, spherical, ...) . See the pdf doc for this parameter.

As always, I did not spend enough time reading the manual. I will read it.

I ran into another small issue: I made my own leaf-component and textured both front and backside of the faces. If I run the tree plugin the mapping coordinates of the backfaces of those leafs get messed up.

It's easy to fix by right clicking on a component and reload the original leaf-file but a bit strange.

Still, compliments on the plugin! Having great fun with it the last couple of hours πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘

    • RE: [Plugin][$] 3D Tree Maker - New version 1.10.14

      Hello Pascal,

Just had a go with the plugin. It works really fine already!

      My 2 cts:

      1. if I right-click and adjust any part of a tree it also generates new elements for every other part of the tree. I understand changing the branches should also change the position of the leaves but changing the leaves atm also changes the trunk, not really what you want if you're fine tuning a tree

      2. i might be a nice feature if one could control the size / length of the branches (size decrease or increase by x %) depending on the position on the tree (higher up the tree = make branches less long by 50% etc).

      3. ditto for the leaves - for instance smaller leaves near the end of a branch.

edit: 4. adjusting a tree reloads all materials and textures. If you-re fine-tuning a tree and already edited one of your materials you have to do that again and again.

edit: 5. the textures for the bark must be located in the 3d arcstudio directory. The same for the models of the leaves. Many people have all their content on (shared and backupped) network drives. It would be great if one could make a redirection to external folders for the textures and a different one for the leaf-models.

      Greetings,

      Max

Absolutely wonderful. Highly appreciated! The process of hatching 2d sections of buildings would take a fraction of time with a plugin like the one you are developing (doing it by hand at the moment). Should I continue development further you think ?

Please do. For me as an architect real hatches in SketchUp are way better than those in LayOut:

      1. they can be exported to third party programs
      2. SU line-hatches in LayOut are much more crisp lines (no jaggies)
      3. if I draw a section in SU and apply real hatches in SU those two are re-used multiple times in LayOut: once for the section 1:100 and fragments of the same section multiple times as details scale 1:10

Doing the hatches in LayOut is a no-go for me because of nr 3) If I would have to make changes I would have to do them on multiple parts in LayOut which would increase the risks of forgetting something / making errors etc.

      Greetings

    • RE: SketchUp 2013 ;)

my 2cts after using SketchUp 2013 for a very short time.

      likes:

      • SU opens and closes really quick

      dislikes:

      • SU doesn't redraw the 3d window (when toggling to another application and back) on my old (GMA 965 gfx) laptop that I use for presentations only.
      • new icons
      • no double side bar anymore -> just pick your toolbars and make a double row yourself
      • several plugins that don't work 100% out of the box (the selection toys toolbar wont display, the preview window of profile builder doesn't work - have to test more) -> manually installing latest version of selection toys did the trick, just had to install an updated javascript file to make ProfileBuilder work 100% again
      • why do I have to type in my Google account name + password to be able to use the extension warehouse??

      suggestions:

      • hatches are fine but I prefer them in Sketchup - real lines that can be exported to third party programs. I prefer to make a section in SU, add hatches and use both in LO several times for: 1) section, 2) several details - If I would use the hatches in LO, I would have to do them separately - is not going to happen for me.

      also:

      • i didn't notice a speed increase in my LO files.

      early conclusion:
at the moment I see no reason to switch to SU 2013. I will keep an eye on the forum to see if I have to reconsiderI have to test more to see if updating makes sense.

      edit: updated some fixes
