Almost a year ago Gabriel84 brought this topic up. I still think it would be a handy tool. Any one had a chance to take a crack at it........ Rick??????

RE: Solar Hot Water Question
Here is a link to a Wikipedia article on absorption refrigeration, rather than compression refrigeration. They do mention one possible heat source as "solar" in the article. I have seen some propane operated absorption refrigerators that have a backup electrical resistance heater to pick up the slack if the propane runs out before a tank recharge. However, I have not seen a production model solar fridge.

RE: Very worried...
Daniel is correct. Some years ago I was the architect for our local County government new Work Release and Community Corrections Center. They were very similar programs, the work release being a transitional period to allow prisoners about to be released to get a job and get back into society. The Community Corrections is a program that offenders are sentenced to directly. In both programs the men and women go to work and return to the facility in the evening. These people are of the non-violent and non-threatening to the community type. In the past 15 years or so the programs have been very sucessful and only a few have walked away and none have caused any mayhem.

RE: Foreign language + English subtitles or broken English?
Ecuadorian,
looks like I came on the survey first! That is unusual for me - I always find these thing a week later.
I think there is less chance of the listener (reader) misunderstanding if the creator of the guide speaks his/her own language and there is a good written interpretation. If there is something wrong in the written translation, there are plenty of people on line to help straighten the text out - a two way learning experience. And - I guess it also depends on how "broken" the english is. Personally, in the USA Midwest, Chicago area - we have such a mix of people from all over the world that I am quite accustom to understanding a variety of accents and strange english reconstructions.

RE: Lasik equipment models or drawings sources
If you are a Form Fonts subscriber, there is a Bausch Lomb Laser model and a few other medical/optical equipment pieces. IMHO a Form Fonts subscription is one of the few real bargains left on the planet - (if you do a lot of last minute, panic modeling like I do)

RE: Must Have Ruby Plugins - Visual Index (Discussion)
I think this is a great way to showcase plug basic functions. There are so many, that it gets mind boggling trying to figure out which one I need, what the point of some of them and what is the difference or advantage of one over the other. If you don't use them often enough to have them down pat-like me - this is a good memory jog (I need as many memory jogs as possible) Hope it can be expanded - nice maybe to add to the side bar of the Ruby Depot listing in the tut column.
This is a great help - thanks

CadFather,
Close Opens is a commercial script (sells for 20 USD). Have you included it in the package? If so, I suggest you remove it asap.
Regards,
Bob,
CadFather - thank you for this tool bar- very handy to access these often used plug-ins.
Is there an easy way to add a button to your tool bar for the "close Opens" and other Smustard routines that I have purchased?
Thanks again

RE: Is sketchup Pro 6 compatible with Windows Vista
I have been using Vista Home Premium for almost a year with no problems on SU or Acad or most other software and very few driver problems. The Vista came with my new laptop - a Toshiba Satellite with a good video card and 3 gigs ram.
From what I have heard, there is more trouble if you upgrade to Vista on an older machine. Some earlier problems with programs and devices seem to have been worked out in the service pack, at least on my machine. A few older programs won't work, my Nero disk burner for example, but all the major stuff is fine.
There are a few nice features in Vista, but overall, I don't think the improvements outweigh the problems it caused many people.

RE: Drawing a hedge!
Try this link. It is in the components and materials forum. Very simple hedge

RE: Posts, Columns, studs, gutters
I don't know if i am on target with your question but the new Smustard profile builder and the dynamic component feature seem to give that sort of function.

RE: Importing and sketching off PDF versions of Arch plans
If you can get the PDF files from the architect or engineer as an adobe pdf plot file, it can be converted directly to a dxf file. There are a number of converters on the market. One that I have found that translates well is Aide PDF to DXF converter. They have a free full function trial and it is a fairly cheap purchase. The lettering does not come in as text which limits the use, but for a sketchup background it will work well.
I have tried to convert copies of drawings that are simply scanned from a print, but none of the converters can do much with them. You get a dxf file but it is an image and not vectorized.
If you can't get the vector PDF file then there is little to be done except endure the torture of the sort of procedure you have outlined.

Chris Picciano - R.I.P.
Some sad news about Chris. Jim's post got me curious and I did some searching. I recall Chris posted something back in July about being diagnosed with stomach cancer but was trying to distract himself by engulfing himself in sketchup and modeling which was a passion.
He will be missed.

RE: Skp Viewer
Totom mentioned above that he can't get thumbnails with Vista. His Vista may need some option tweaking.
I've been making the transition to Vista and have found it to be XP with a few improvements but mostly just renaming and reorganizing. At least with the latest service pack SU runs on it with no hitches as well as my other major software. One really improved feature, however, is found in "view" which gives several thumbnail options. See attached PDF of a screen shot. It will give a thumbnail view of almost any type of file and on the largest setting, they are quite legible, but, not large enough for really detailed examination.

RE: Lessonplan For Teaching SketchUp To Grade/Middle School Ages
Several years ago one of our very active forum members, Kevin Gentry, wrote a sylabus for a sketchup class he taught in a local school. I haven't thought about him for a while - curious as to what happened to him.
Kevin distributed the outline freely so I am sure he wouldn't mind me posting it here. The outline was for a much earlier version of SU but his lessons on the basics and the methodology might be helpful to you to create your own course of study. Good starting point.
Kevin, if you are out there - Hi and Happy New Year- thanks again for all the early contributions.

RE: [Plugin] Selection Toys
Thanks Thomas, I will find being able to turn a number of groups into components very usefull.
