    • Extruding a face from a contoured terrain?

Im wondering if there is a plugin/tool that allows me to extrude a contoured (non flat) face from a terrain.

Currently I am using a line extrude command, then copying up the face to that height.

Or I am intersecting a 'flat' extruded face between to levels of the contoured terrain. These are very time consuming. (hope this makes sense)

      Anything out there?

    • RE: Field of View is vertical, I want to specify horizontal!

I have found another thread on here that says if you enter this into ruby:

      "Sketchup.send_action(10624)"

it brings up a dialogue box that gives you the horizontal reading of FOV as opposed to the vertical reading available in the command window in sketchup. from this I could work out that entering a 67.7 degree FOV (vertically) woudl give me a 90 degree width image.

I think there should be an easy way of specifying which orientation the FOV refers to, or if not, at least let us know that we are in fact entering the vertical measurement on the command line!!

    • Field of View is vertical, I want to specify horizontal!

I want to create a 90 degree wide image, but have discovered that when inputting 90 degrees into 'field of view', this in fact controls the vertical field of view. through trial and error (drawing 90 degree extent lines in model) I have found the actual 'field of View' input of 68 degrees to in fact give me a 90 degree wide view.

Is there a way of inputting the correct data to acheive a 90 degree wide view, or at least a formula to work out what vertical degree i need to put in?

I have found a resolution to my problem.

I have right clicked the sketchup 7 icon and gone to properties/compatibility then ticked โ€˜run this program in compatibility mode for:โ€™ Windows XP (service pack 3) as in the attached image. Now I can use drape successfully when SU podium V2 plugin is installed.

      haha...Dont get me started!

We have an IT Help desk to log complaints, which i cannot log into at present...so they cant even hear me problems, let alone deal with them....

Do you know off the top of your head how much a SU8 upgrade is?

      Have just done so.

This is very annoying. Both are extremely important to my job!

Someone out there must have Podium V2.1 and witnessed the same problem?

      Cheers TIG.

I have done all you said and after some detective work, it looks like its my 'SU_Podium_V2.rbs' file which is causing the problem. I presume without this I cannot use podium V2? ๐Ÿ˜ž

So has there ever been a conflict with Podium V2.1 and Drape?

    • RE: Drape Crashes on SU.7 on Win.7

Ok, well I have attached a file which crashes (as does any file i create), but i presume this will work on your computer as you obviously dont experience the same bug splats using the drape command.

I have just upgraded computer to windows 7, which is what i believe to be the probelm as appart from that, nothing has changed since having XP. I havent installed any new plugins.

I just tried Superdrape, this crashes also. So my main question is, does anyone else have problems draping with Sketchup 7 running on Windows 7?

    • RE: Drape Crashes on SU.7 on Win.7

It happens in any situation, wether it be one line draping onto a square plane, or contours onto a terrain and just crashes and bug splats, so no point really sending over a file.

I haven't heard of Super drape. Where can I find the plugin?

Drape command crashes every time on Sketchup 7. Im using Windows.7.

I have read issues with Sketchup 8, but not 7. It crashes on even the simplist of drapes.

      Any fix for this?

    • Changing Face me 'rotation' point?

I have downloaded a 2d tree component from the 3D warehouse which is a 'face me' component. The component 'faces me' by rotating on the edge of the overall component (widest point of the tree's leaves) and not the centre, thus drastically moving the trees position every time i move around the model.

Is there any way I can alter the location of the rotation point of the component to the centre of the tree trunk to stop any displacement of the component?

    • Exporting as a solid object for 3D printing?

I need to create a model to be exported to a 3D printer for a physical model consisting of numerous tiles.

The 'tiles' that shall be printed obviously need a thickness, so I have offset my terrain and 'blocked off' the sides, so it looks like a solid tile with a thickness to be printed. As Sketchup uses surfaces, I have been told that this will not be read as a solid and result in problems and cannot be printed.

Is there a way, or a plugin/export method of turning this into a solid mass as in programs such as 3D Max ect?

I would like to keep this within Sketchup as much as possible.
