⌘-ctrl = orbit.. add the shift key and it does what you want.. takes a minute to figure out the best way to hold your hand but once you get it ingrained, orbiting/panning is a breeze..

maybe i'm not sure what you're asking for here but when i get 'lost' in a model, i'll use shift-Z.. try it and see if that what you want..

[edit] oh wait, you're talking about field of view etc.. yeah, i agree

sort of a peeve of mine i guess:

dof - depth of field translates to how much of an image is in focus. It's not an effect like flare or motion blur.

if your dof is 8', that means there's a zone in the scene which is 8' deep and in focus.. (this rendering probably has a dof of ~25' which begins near the furthest mat and extends outside)

we're seeing the same thing but in writing it would say something like "there's not enough dof here.. the dof is too shallow.. etc."

here's how i would do it.. 30x40 base, 6 1/2" square at top.. i had to guess the height (20" to bottom of square top) and the amount of vert at the base (2.5" on the long side and 1" on the short)...

here's a link to the movie and i'll attach the final skp as well.

      i run into this sometimes..

the first thing i try (and it works out most of the time) is to use the follow me tool instead of push/pull..
select a line that you want your radius to follow then click the follow me button in the tool bar

if that doesn't work for you, upload the .skp file and i'll be able to show you what to do..

domestic plywood is manufactured in standard dimensions, ie. 1/4" 1/2" 3/4"

imported plywood is manufactured in metric dimensions, ie. 5.2mm 12mm 18mm.

upon a closer look the measurements are not equal. 3/4" = 19.5mm

why is imported plywood thinner than its domestic counterpart?

domestic? as in domestic u.s.a? if so, your measurements are off.. buy a sheet of 3/4 here (u.s.) and it's even stamped 23/32 (though for simplicity sake i imagine, the price tag still says 3/4).. the domestics and imports are the same general thicknesses (nowhere near a 1.5mm difference)

      @unknownuser said:

call it greed, call it efficiency, call it capitalism, call it whatever you want to but, all things being equal, the major difference between imported and domestic plywood is the quality and closely related to that is the price. it would be subjective to say that imported plywood is poor quality so to remain objective i'll just say that domestic plywood is produced with a smaller allowable tolerance where imported plywood has a bigger tolerance.

      what?
imported plywood is way better(and the price reflects this).. use a few sheets of finland birch and that will become your standard to which all other ply will fail to meet..
[although you'll probably only be able to find it in hobby sizes right now in the u.s... i'm pretty sure i wiped out the entire u.s. stock of 6 & 9mm 8x4 sheets last year.. i really hope that's false so anyone please prove me wrong if you can.. ]

for the more standard softwood plywoods, the only time i get 1/2" that's actually really close to 1/2" is when it comes from south america.. for cdx style plywood, this is the best stuff out there.. it always comes in 5-ply (as opposed to u.s.'s 4 or 3), less voids, stronger, and nearly equal in price.. note - u.s 3-ply 1/2" is even thinner than 4-ply.. that said, i always go with domestic 4ply 1/2" because of my application (i need to bend the stuff and the 5-ply is too strong)

      @unknownuser said:

the easiest way to deal with imported metric plywood dimensions in your SU drawings is to use the metric dimensions that the plywood is manufactured with.

here are the sizes that metric plywood is produced in with the standard equivalent next to them.

      metric- standard
      2.6 mm - 1/8"
      3.0 mm - 1/8"
      5.2 mm - 1/4"
      6.0 mm - 1/4"
      9.0 mm - 3/8"
      12.0 mm - 1/2"
      15.0 mm - 5/8"
      18.0 mm - 3/4"

if that's how you like to do it, fine.. not really nice to pass this type of info along though...

      [edit2].. ok, don't do what i said earlier ^^^^^
i installed it in the normal spot and it works fine... i think your problem might be that you don't have the actual freescale plugin installed..you might only have fredo's library that when unzipped contains FREESCALE_Dir_10 which is empty except for one empty folder named IMAGES_Standard

      get the actual plug here..

( Now I'm in the Mac family, too )

Thanks Mike. I am meaning an easy way to start my apps from the Desktop without folder structures. I have similar something for windows, where I can organize my apps and start quickly what I need ( without having the desktop blowup with copied Icons).

      Burkhard

i realize your post is old and you may have found a solution you like but...

one of the easiest/fastest ways to launch apps is via spotlight.

      1. ⌘-space (spotlight shortcut)
      2. type in a few letters from the app's name ( 'sk' --> Sketchup)
      3. press return to launch

this works better with leopard.. with tiger, the first item highlighted in spotlight was 'show all' but with leopard, they made the apps highlight first so you simply have to hit return to launch..

another method is to drag your application folder into the dock as a stack.. that gives you one-click access to all of your apps.. (well, sort of... some of your apps are nestled in folders within the application folders and only those folders show up in the stack.. i made a little script that finds all your apps and creates aliases in a separate folder which can then be placed in the dock so only the launch icons will appear in the stack.. basically, this puts all of your apps in the dock but only uses one icon worth of space... i can share that if needed)

. I don't understand what you are saying about Macs being OSX only. Windows runs on Macs via BootCamp, often faster than on PCs.

yeah, i jumbled that part all up.. meant - you can't install os x on a computer that doesn't have the 'i'm a mac' chip... if apple took that part out of the OS, you could.. they want you to buy macs if you want to use their software.. that leads back to what xrok said earlier about lots of ways to run windows on macs but zero ways (legal) to do the opposite..
apple allows the crossover programs in order to lure in more hardware buyers but they won't allow their software to run on machines sold by another company..

    • RE: Mac v Win

wouldn't most mac users call 1-800-APL-CARE instead of 1-800-RESCUE-PC ?

dude, seriously, macs and pcs use the same hardware.. same hard drives, dvd burners, chips, motherboards, etc......

look inside your mac and you'll see intel, western digital, seagate, sony, panasonic, etc... nothing apple though some things will be 'designed' by apple (such as that tiny extra chip that's on your cpu that says 'i'm a mac' and prevents another OS from being installed)..

circumventing that chip (which is illegal due to copy write issues) will allow windows to run totally fine on a mac.. some things will actually perform better on the mac and vice versa..

mac vs win is only a battle of operating systems/software now... that's it.. (well, and the outer shell of said gadget)

apple isn't even pursuing anyone violating the copy write because they like the 'buzz' surrounding their OS.. the main reason microsoft has 90% share is due to familiarity.. so-and-so goes into best buy to get a new computer and they won't get a mac simply because they don't want to learn a new system..

as far as superior reliability with apple, i personally doubt the claims (though i don't have any ms purchases to compare).. it took me 3 iphones until i finally got one that worked properly and i had a motherboard replaced on a laptop.. this only in the past year..
