    • RE: Wish list for Sketchup 2018

I have seen so much criticism of the tray system, introduced in SU 2015, that I must come to the defense of the trays. If you use two monitors as many of us do it's a great way of organizing windows for quick access. Even with one monitor the trays can be hidden with the auto-hide feature.

Also the biggest advantage of SU is it's basic simplicity -no new tools please. That's what plugins are for! And finally please don't change nomenclature - I still call it the VCB whatever SU has changed the name to.

I will start out with a request for an automated migration tool so that I don't have to waste hours manually migrating form one version to the next.

Thanks Tig! I had to do a clean instal of 2017 and then download 3.0.4 but it's working now.

    • RE: Extensions missing from Preferences in SU Pro 2017

I have a problem with Extension Store in 2017 in that the Extension store only opens a a minimized bar. Clicking on maximise only changes the position of the title bar and trying to drag to a larger window does nothing. I have been forced to use the native SU Extension warehouse which is both slow and limited. Anyone else having this problem?

    • RE: I need a new mouse

I've been using my CadMouse for about two weeks now and love it. It is about 1/3 larger than a simple scroll mouse in all dimensions so it might not be suitable for folks with small hands, and I can't imagine lefties being able to use it. It definitely requires the mouse pad. The surprise for me was how useful it is for non CAD applications.
I note that Rich O'Brian has tweeted about it.

    • RE: Working on 2 screens and sometimes only 1 doesn't work...

I operate with SU on my primary monitor and keep the windows I use most on my secondary monitor. Ever since SU 7 the arrangement has stayed that way; however the last two weeks both the SU drawing window and the menu windows appear on my primary monitor - I can of course move them to my second monitor, but when the session ends and I reopen SU it goes back to the primary monitor. How do I lock them? I've tried the above solutions but no joy.

    • RE: 2015 crashing windows explorer

Still not a complete solution, I have to right click and open with SU 2015 to keep Explorer from crashing. And now I can't move groups or components in the outliner. My latest drawing the foundation remains in the "roof", in a couple of days I will try another repair copy of SU2015 - my 4th copy!

      Thanks Jo-ke,

please post when you get an answer!

Later: I downloaded a new copy of 2015 and the problem seems to be solved (also a related? problem that drawings would be opened in2014 with a pop up that requested me to download 2015) I am spending more time on 2015 issues than I am drawing in 2015 - frustrating!

Ok guys this is embarrassing - I can't find the location of the plugins/extensions folder in SU2015. The file structure seems to have changed considerably in this release. I am running windows 7.

      Thanks

    • RE: Windows/ Parallels on Mac OS

      Hi Tim,

Sorry, I didn't want to step on any toes. My source for the "less than full copies" is based on my computer guru's statements and not on my research. Here is the problem I had, I installed VM Fusion on my mac and could not access the shared printer (necessary for me to send estimates, drawings and bills). The only way I could print was using a virtual printer which printed using virtual ink on virtual paper, or converting the documents to PDF and emailing them to myself. Therefore the boot level solution. A year or so later my wife got a Mac and installed Parallels. She needed windows ( XP) to run a desktop / cloud gradebook program. I don't know exactly what happened, the guru was helping her, but she was left without the program or grades the week they were due. As i recall and according to the gradebook's help line this was a known bug (to them). Her solution - the school system is getting her a PC for professional use, she continues to use Parallels on social networking and scrabble.

I wish that it had worked for me but it didn't. I can believe that Parallels runs Linux/ Unix well, after all OSX is based on Unix isn't It?

On the original issue. I tried SU on the PC side and had no problem inferencing using any of the SU native tools I tried.

      Happy sketchuping, John

    • RE: Windows/ Parallels on Mac OS

Hi jmillsaia, and welcome to the SUC forums!
I can't directly answer your question, but do have this to say. Both Parallels and it's competitor (I'm blanking on its name) run less than full versions of Windows. I tried both and ran into so many bugs in so many programs that I gave up and now run a boot level copy of windows XP on my Mac. Next time I'm over there I'll see if I can duplicate your difficulties with inferencing, and re post if you haven't received a better answer. Why not use SU on the Mac side?
      Enjoy SU, John

    • RE: Plugin Help

      Hi Jake,

Installing plugins on a Mac was extremely frustrating for the first six months I used SU. It seemed very hit or miss to get a plug in to work. I very nearly gave up. Here's what works for me.

First the plugins go in: Mackintosh HD> Libary> Google Sketchup7> Sketchup> Plugins. When I download a plugin I open a window on the desktop that has the plugins folder. If the download is just a .rb I drop it into the plugins folder. If it comes as a zip file I extract the file on the desktop, open that file and separately drop the .rb and the folder containing support material into the plugins folder. Trash the now empty folder on the desktop. I also save the zip files to a folder on my desktop in case of accidental loss or damage to the plugins folder. In addition I occasionally save another copy of my plugins folder. All because some plugins cause conflicts.

I hope this helps. Enjoy SU - it's an addiction.

    • RE: [Plugin][$] FredoScale - v3.6a - 01 Apr 24

      Hi,
      OK I've Dealt with it
I'm reposting this from the Newbie forum. I've been taking advantage of the current economic down turn, to, amongst other things learn Sketchup. The reason I joined the forum is my interest in Fredo's amazing freescale tool. I'm very new to SketchUcation. A few months into Shetchup, and less than six months back to Mac after an absence since OS 4. I'm using a Mac running Leopard and have been unable to install the downloads correctly in my plugins folder. I was wondering if someone could post a screen shot of the folder hierarchy properly installed? I have been following the posts on the Ruby forum and have tried several ways to do the installation, but no joy. All suggestions gratefully accepted.

      Thanks Gaieus,

I'll repost to ruby. I've got enough learning to get through for now, but as a carpenter I will need to join the woodworking board soon.

      Thanks again John
