    • So close... Xubuntu, SU7 and Kerkythea...

Hi gang, I'm running SU7 (free) under WINE 1.1.17 and Xubuntu 8.10 on a Sony VAIO with Intel integrated graphics. I'm using Kerkythea 2008 (native LINUX) and everything is hunky-dory except...

The OpenGL rendering window in SU7 is goofy. It likes to change colors depending on what I click on becoming mostly black and then switching to the standard colors sometimes. I've had to disable DRI in my xorg.conf file to get SU7 to show the rendering window in the first place (no biggie) but the random coloring is distracting and ruining my "Sketchup Experience"...

I'm pretty sure the issue may be the xserver-xorg-intel-driver supplied by the Ubuntu people and the somewhat lame support of OpenGL by Intel in general. So there may be nothing to be done... (C'mon Google release a native LINUX version!)

So, I guess what I'm asking is this: If anyone else is running SU under LINUX with Intel graphics and has any ideas about tweaking the video, I'd sure give a listen...

      Cheers!

I prefer Douglas Adams' take on it. From the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy:

Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn’t the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.”

      Cheers.

~A tornado warning siren is your signal to go out in the yard and look for a funnel.
So true... I was visitin' some friends in Dumas a few years back and the tornado warning went off. Never having heard one, I looked at my watch thinking it was a 12 o'clock siren like I have at home. It wasn't 12 o'clock. "What's up?" I asked. "It a tornado warning." said my friend and everyone ran outside the house to look for a funnel...🤣

Hi Jojo and IdahoJ and welcome both. I see (IdahoJ) you have already signed up for the Woodworking forum. 👍
Thank you for the welcome Gaieus! This is a wonderful forum to be part of, a comfortable kind of place it seems, and a helpful community. I've already learned a number of "tricks" in just the short time I've been here.

Ah, woodworking... Yes. My "escape" from the working world... Between some projects my wife would like me to design and build for the home, and my hobby of constructing wooden canoes and small craft, I think SU is going to be a fantastic tool!

I hope to post some of my work as soon as I get to be a bit more proficient...

      Cheers!

Great find! ROTFLMAO! Bookmarked for sure!

The next time I go to my favorite sushi joint, I think I'll show the owner a copy of the "Health Demolition Tofu Recipe". She's 100% Japanese and I know she'll get a great laugh out of it.

Heck, why not? She suffers through my broken Japanese on a regular basis!

      Cheers!

      IdahoJ,

We have seen a few "windows customization" settings that have caused problems in the past. We have fixed these with the latest update (bonzai3d indicates build 7218 at startup, right) but it is certainly possible that there is still a problem we have not seen yet. If you logon as Guest, do you still have this problem? Or if you change your Theme to a standard "Windows Theme" -- does this prevent the crash?

If not, can you email a screen capture showing the bonzai3d startup window as well as the crash message so we can look into this further?

      support@bonzai3d.com

I'll see what I can do guys. I've already removed it from my system...

      Cheers.

      IdahoJ,

This behavior is definitely not normal, and crash issues should now be fairly isolated. Do you get the crash just launching, or do you need to do something else afterwards to cause the crash?

And did you make sure to install the Microsoft vcredist.exe component?

Crashes on launch and I have both the 64 and 32 bit MSVC++ 2005 Redistributable v8.0.56336 installed.

      Cheers.

So far my sessions with Bonzai3D have been:

      open crash
      open crash
      open crash...

This is on an XP-64 OS, AMD 9950 x4 BE 2.6GHz CPU, 8Gb RAM running an ATi 4870 PCI-X card with ATi Catalyst 8.11 drivers.

      Greets to the community!

I'm a semi-retired IT professional and programmer of 20+ years experience who now has time to pursue other interests and hobbies in his life. I'm currently using SU7 for woodworking projects, furniture design and wood strip canoes. I also have programmed in Ruby and look forward to developing some useful scripts for release to the community.

      Cheers!

A router_selected_edges.rb tool. This tool would allow the user to sect a group or face, and automatically "router" the edge(s) with a choice of a multitude of existing (common) profiles of router bits.

What a time saver this would be! +1
