    • Cool features of SU7

With all the bleating, b*tching and moaning about what was NOT updated or included in SU7 I thought I would start a postive thread on SU7.

Have you put a new feature of SU7 to good use? Found something surprising buried in the menus somewhere? Tell us here. Did something with Dynamic Components, let us know what is possible.

PS. Don't complain about SU7 or post comments along the lines "So what we could do that with 57 steps and 25 scripts in SU6" do that in the other thread.

Did you use any TAGS that might be searched often? "building" "house" "plant" "model"? Maybe lots of people are just stumbling aross them.

About the only tag I use is "woodwork". I am not an attention whore, it was only out of curiosity that I asked the original question. I don't ask for people to rate the model, I don't have a web site that I point everyone to my models etc.

About the only promotion of my models I do is the signature on this forum and if the web site that I get the woodwork plans from allows comments I just let them know that I created a sketchup model of their plan.

I enjoy using SU for the sake of using it and to keep me occupied in a job that can be quite tedious and boring without something to do. If other like and want to use my models then that's great but it's not the goal. I was just taken by surprise that I do have so many views and downloads that's why I asked if it was 7 days or a total from upload.

The number of views and downloads is indeed for just the previous 7 days, and they exclude duplicate downloads from the same user in each day.

Is there a way can I tell where these views are coming from? I just got another 100 hits in just over 6 hours, that's 1 every 4 minutes or so. Where are these people coming from? There had only been 30 views of this thread at the time so it can't have come from here!

I am flattered but curious where these views are coming from.

    • 3D warehouse question

When you look at a model in the 3D warehouse it shows you how many views and downloads there has been in the last 7 days.

Is that really accurate or is it an accumulation number since the model was uploaded?

The reason I ask is that my most populat model has supposedly had 256 views and 98 downloads in a week! My models are ok but I don't promote or advertise them anywhere so the only source of views would be this forum or warehouse searches.

    • RE: Expoerting models to 3d warehouse

My guess is that they have a limit on what models they will create thumbnails with shadows, your 6 meg model with over half a million edges and over 200 thousand faces is probably above that limit.

It is in the help that I always suggest people to read and reread.

Instruction sheets, manuals, help sections, FAQ's, Google and search facilities are for wimps and the mentaly infirm.

The best way is to ignore them all (and the post 2 before yours) asking the same question as every other begineer over and over and over and over again and again and again... until there is no-one left on the forum to help anybody.

      Isn't it?

i want this copy to be shorter...so i explode the copy and i create a new component but there are instances of the first component that i want to transform to the new created one

No don't do that, insert a new copy, then right click and select "Make Unique", that will give you a new component called for example "Front post#1"

Double click it and edit to your hearts content, you will only effect the copy not the original. Any other components you insert of the copy will then be linked but not to the original.

    • RE: Modeling for plywood construction

Feel free to ignore my rants, every now and then one of my buttons gets pushed, you just happened to push the "USA is the centre of the world, you should view everything said by anyone from American view point" button.

The worst case of that is web sites that do not allow you to select anything but a US state, they don't even have a "Outside USA" option.

....while still calling it the full standard measurement.......

Make that American standard.. the rest of the world realised the benefits of using a base ten measuring system when you use a base ten number system decades and decades ago.

Despite the excuse that it would "confuse" people to switch to metric the real reason is that the metric system was invented by the French. The yanks don't like the french... then again they did release it as "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone" because the movie exec's thought Americans were stupid enough to think that it was a 'intellectual' movie if they called it "Philosophers Stone".

Has anyone seem the American version of the film? Did they dub in 'sorcerers stone' whenever it was mentioned? 🤣

I thought it was a limitation of the 3D WH but I just did a test box with shadows and it worked fine.

List the exact steps and attach the model in your next post.

I will upload it as well and see if it gives me the shadows.

I tried to rise the left side to 40 feet, I typed in 40' and it barely did anything. How do I turn on grids or rulers to see how big my shapes are? I even tried typing in 400' and nothing happened again.

Are you moving the area a little bit first? You move it any distance in the direction you want to go, then you type in the exact distance you need.

If you don't move it first how is SU supposed to know which direction to push/pull it?

Surely when it doesn't punch through just use the intersect command and the delete the unwanted geometry.

Yes, that is another workaround for something that should not happen.

Can you post the model or at least the part that is causing a problem ?

I can't, as I said I just use the work around and it only happens once in a blue moon. As soon as I "fix it" I can't get SU to do the same thing again.

      1. Create the wall
      2. Try and punch the window, fails
      3. Use the work around
      4. Undo
      5. Try and punch the window again, works. 😕
If it happens again I will save the model at that point and post it here.

Why on earth would anyone want to buy a Mac to run Linux?

They wouldn't, my primary OS is Linux and I detest Windows but I do use it when I have to. I was looking to buy a Mac as an alternative but not at that price.
