These styles look great, thanks Dave. Now can someone please explain the correct procedure for getting these installed in my styles folder? When I download I get a win-zip file and when unpacked I get 3 xml files, a png., and a ref. folder. I'm using the latest SU6 Pro on a windows machine. TIA

      Mike

I hope I did this right also?

I placed similar files(skp.) from a SU materials forum into my C drive/Program Files/Google/Google SU6/Materials/Vegetation(this was for trees).
My only worry was that the other files in this folder were (skm.) files.
I asked the question on the board already, just waiting for a generous repy!

Not sure, I'm just a newbie!

      Newbie question:
Do I place these in the Materials folder in my Gogle Program file folder.
Those are all skm. file though!

Thanks a lot for the trees!

    • Who is missing the Soap Skin and Bubble tool!

      I just can't get enough.
It seems the creator has another tool coming out called Tensile Structure. Similiar in ways.
      Right now it's "Under Construction".

Coming from a newbie myself, I think I would have tried using the Soap skin and Bubble tool, but it just timed out on the night of the April,10th, so the tool is gone for now!

      I already miss this tool!

      Thanks everyone,
Do you have any suggestions about render applications that support instances. Price info would help too!

    • So I guess It's time to render! Any tips?

I have completed my park layout as far as structural elements with SSB skins. So next I want to add textures(cement) and color, grass, trees and bushes.
I think I am going to save the file as a new name and then figure out how to render it somehow.

Should I soften edges of my SSB skins? (The desired look would be similar to a curvy, free flowing pool.

If I render a component, wouldn't that change all the copies in the file?

What about time? THis is the size I found in the model info: (2957.83KB (3028813 Bytes))

Any tips and advice would be great!

    • Toolbar question and Bezier Curve tool!

A week or two ago, I downloaded that great bezier curve tool, which I absolutly love BTW.
I would like to add it to the tool bar, but for now I have to keep going up to the top menu and scroll down for it.
I also use some of the key commands for tools such as push pull and pencil/line, and Move, but the black arrow tool/selection tool I didn't come across.

Is there a list of tool commands that I missed?

    • RE: A question about curve designs!

      Thanks again Bob,
I love the way you are able to make those neet tutorials. I assume that this is in Layout or something?
It is such a productive way to learn something. Before you posted this I took a SSB skin ontop of three walls and a floor curved line and interesected it with the push pulled curve shape. THis leaves more cleaning up then your way, due to all the poly sahpes. your way gets the shape you ned, then I can add the skin or use the contour with smoove tool.
      Timesaving this way!
      Thanks,
      Greg

Are there any youTube videos or tutorials on the newbie forum list that shows how to make your own textures.
Is Bantam 3d an expensive program?

Nevermind, I'll do a google search for the application!

    • Dumb questions about Ruby scripts.

If you have a ruby script(Soap skin and bubble) and it expires, are there any limitations to what you already created. Will the ruby geometry still show up, once it already has been made? Will adding textures to the ruby script have any effect after the time has expired?

Are there any cool plugins for textures that don't come with SU free version. I want grass and cement, ans maybe glass/plexiglass?

Does the writer of the SSB tool want SU to buy the ruby, or maybe sell it to users?

Although I am between fulltime jobs at the monment, I think I'd be willing to pay a reasonable or affordable amount for this tool. I think it is great and would like to thank the author for a job well done!

    • RE: A question about curve designs!

That looks like the answer, I knew there had to be a way!
So what I gather is that I need to carefully scale the two so they intersect and then perhaps divide by "interest selected".

      Thanks so much.

So does this mean that there is no other way to take that staight shape at the far end of the layout and wrap it around a a curve or cylinder?

Nine days, then what? We have to buy it or something!
Why would this awesome tool go away?

    • RE: A question about curve designs!

That was my bad, I just need to know how to wrap the wave shape around a cylinder. It is easy to create a wave shape on a rectangle, but it seems difficult to wrap it around the curve.
      Sorry about the broken example.

Any suggestions how to wrap or project the flat shape on the curve?

    • A question about curve designs!

I have been having a blast creating skins with the soap and bubble skin tool.
I am able to creat interesting shapes by creating a boxed in area, then selecting the top parts to create the shape then make the skin.
My problem is when this box that I create turns into a curve, as when the skatepark goes into a turn. I am able to create a straight wall that curves, easy with pus pull, but I want it to start low and end high in the middle, then I will flip a copy to go back down for the secon half of the turn.

I enclosed a file of what I have succesfully done and the also the shape I want to transition from a high wedge, wrapping around to morph into a higher wedge.(the last two),(one example is an attempt to push pull, using two diffent wedge shapes on the side, didn't work)

Next I will ask some basic tool questions.

      Thanks in advance!

P.s. I love SU. It is addicting!

    • RE: Need help with rounded wedge shape!

Remus, How many tools did it take to draw the curve with the staraight line part in the middle. I need two. I also downloaded the Bezier tool, but that seems to put a continous curve throughout the shape, instead of the flat section. Unless there is a way to use one tool.
My other problem was that I was thinking in the terms of actual construction.. Maybe I was wasting my time drawing a series of wedge shaped support structures to form the ramps throughout the park. Instead perhaps I should just care about what lines are needed for the skins.

      thanks.

    • RE: Need help with rounded wedge shape!

They are all what I described, but I would say the very first one is what I needed.
What tool did you draw the outline. I was using the curve tool, then connecting the pencil/line tool to the endpoint for the straight plane, then the curve tool for the opposite direction curve(so it transitions to the floor smoothly). But when I tried to connect them to close the shape, no face was made. I will look at what all you wrote and get back to you!

      Thanks so much!

    • Need help with rounded wedge shape!

I have ben doing pretty decent at my skatepark project but I am having some super simple problems. I want a long wedge shape,3 feet tall and 10' long the top and bottom faces that both need rounded edges like a hill side profile but the middle is straight, no curve. I have tried everything and I get no face. I have made a cube and then tried to push pull a intersecting shape to get the outline rounded, straight and rounded again, but no faces.
Do I have to view a certain axis?
I have made some rally cool skins with the bubble and soap filters, with interesting contours. I have made winding paths as a start on the floor axis(blue) and then made a few curved walls on both sides, selected the edges and I get a cool skin. But I can't make a simple wedge with rounded edges!

I have also had some major problems with exploding curves, then thay are all fragmented and split up. I 'm not sure why they are splitting apart, but I have had to redraw the entire park when I went to add the skins to the complex series of wedges and winding paths.

      Sorry if I rammbled
      Help!

My next challenge is to slope the top of the wall. That is the highest part would be at the smaller radius point and the low part would be at the end of the largest radius.
At first glance I thought I could easily draw a rect and slope the top and intersect this form with spiral wall but ofcurse this will not give the desired result. Any ideas?

edit: Maybe I need to do the top wall slope part before the scaling.

      lapx,

Here is my attempt in the attached skp.
      (partly Bob's solution integrated)

As a newbie, I almost get this!
I do remeber another tutorial by someone on the forum, who demonstrated the Scene 3 technique. The one that copies and flips 180 degrees to have a center point. Can you elaborate again one why this is done? Then I will fully get it!
      Great job!
