Jackson, Most of these newbie questions used to be (and still are) in the Groups Forums - though as I mentioned above, the amount (and unfortunately the quality) of posts have decreased there as well during the past months. I'd also assume that since SU was made free (about a year ago?) all the crowds who were already after a nice 3D application, have already mastered themselves to a certain level and questions are more rare. I don't think that so many people will come here automatically (even instead of the Groups Forums) for obviously Google won't link these forums on the SU website (like it did with the Old Forums) saying "Hey folks; here are the Pros to answer you questions". Yet I also think that after the settling (merging) of the two Google forums, traffic will grow again here.

This thread seems to be light on desserts, so here is the best pie I have ever had: Old-Time Chocolate Meringue Pie (from "Sweety Pies" book) Ingredients: One nine-inch pie crust Filling: 3 large egg yolks 1/2 stick unsalted butter melted 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (dutch process is best if you can get it) 1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk 1/2 cup water 1 tsp. vanilla extract Meringue: 3 large egg whites 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/4 cup sugar Pre-bake pie 9" crust (425 F - 8 to 10 min.), cool Make the filling: Beat eggs yolks, set aside Heat the butter in medium-size saucepan low heat until it melts. Add cocoa, condensed milk and water, stirring constantly with spoon or wire whisk until smooth. Stir in the egg yolks and vanilla and cook until thickened and smooth (medium heat, 'till it just begins to boil). Remove from heat, beat out any lumps that may have formed, pour into pie crust. Make the meringue: Combine the egg whites, cream of tartar and vanilla in medium bowl and beat with electric mixer 'till soft peaks form. Add the sugar one tablespoon at a time and continue beating 'till stiff peaks form and sugar is dissolved. Mound in center of pie, then spread around the edge of the crust, sealing meringue to the crust. Bake (350 F) until meringue is golden, 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool completely on a wire rack. Best intense deep chocolate pie, ever. Would also be fine with whipped cream instead of meringue.

Gidon, I'm glad you don't mind. I cut the handle in two and made a component of one half. Then I copied and mirrored that half to make the opposite end. Since they are both instances of the same component, SU is only "remembering" half the geometry of the whole thing. this lets you get away with higher segment counts in curvy stuff without bloating the file size. There's another benefit to this as well. If you decide to edit the shape of the handle in some way, you need only edit one end. The other gets done at the same time. FWIW, there was some unneeded geometry inside the center portion of the handle which I also got rid of. I didn't check at the opposite end. FWIW, here is an example of some detailed curves in SketchUp. The fronts and backs of these pipe boxes are split down the middle so that the left half and right half are mirrored instances of the same component. The front components are different on the left pipe box than the right so they are different components. There's a radius on the edge of the drawer face and the joinery is drawn throughout. Even with the material applied the file size for just the two front boxes was only 233Kb. In the attached image, there are ten of each and the file saves out at 259Kb All because I used components and split the symmetrical ones. [image: X2MG_20pipe_box.jpg] Oh, and one other thing. Another side benefit of spliting the panels here, is that I get book matched grain automatically. Not really appropriate on these pipe boxes but for something like a veneered door panel it might be.

@tomsdesk said: who's tree this is? Now: Great little bench! Thanks for sharing. What would be the yellow wood (or is all veneered laminate)? . That's not one of you trees?!? Are you sure? Hmmmmmmm! Anyway, the bench is constructed of a steel framework with Maple and Ipea.

That's one of the things I love about woodworking. So many ways to skin the same cat. (American idiom which has nothing against cats, but which expresses the possibility of having many successful outcomes.)

Hi Eric. In answer to your question: @unknownuser said: In the center of the medallion, is that an image or did you model the flower I can only appologise for not having posted the medallion model. It was late, I was tired, you know, the usual excuses for being scatter-brained [image: lq5u_PlasterMedallion.jpg] So anyway, here's the medallion skippy. Plaster Medallion.skp It's actually quite crude and I'm sure most of the guys could do something much more ellaborate but it does give a nice 3D effect. I took a photo of a plaster cieling medallion and slapped it on a disc. Then I traced around some of the parts, p/p'ed them a bit, projected the texture and basicaly that's it. The center 'flower' was a bit more work. I didn't want to just p/p because then I wouldn't get that 'leaf' effect, so I scaled down the flowers base and did a follow me of a gentle curve for the top skin. Then I re-projected the texture and moved the flower back onto the center of the disc. Like I said, it's all pretty crude stuff. I think I probably would have gotten better results with soap-skin that with follw-me. So here's the skippy. I hope you find it useful. I'm planning to make a whole bunch of them and experimenting with different techniques. I'll post as I go along.

It sounds a very good idea for a script though if one is not available. I would definately use it!
