Hi everybody :
Just a snap-shot of a few of my projects.

Sorry I didn't reply to you sooner. I now realized that I've been going about it the wrong way. After downloading the .3ds file. Instead of just trying to OPEN it with SU8, I IMPORT it into SU8. Most of them, though, I have to uncheck EDGES under EDGE STYLE to get rid of all those "lines". And I'm pretty much good to go. Sorry about the confusion. Another lesson learned. Most of the time, I like to create my own objects. But, other times, I like to take a "shortcut". Thanks for your help. I'd say, "someday I'll return the favor", but you're the knowledgeable one here. Well, I guess I can help someone else out the best that I can. Again.....thanks.

Here's the site I tried. The objects are "supposed" to be in .3ds format. But, SU8 can't open them. **[highlight=#ff0040:3fhi4zmq]www.archibase.net[/highlight:3fhi4zmq]**

Hi everybody :
Is there any site, other than 3D Warehouse that has compatible objects that will work with SU8 ? I tried downloading a few objects from a couple different sites, but they weren't compatible with SU8. And 3D Warehouse is limited in what is available. I thought 3DS objects would be compatible.

Hi everybody :
Is there a "standard" for installing plugins into Sketchup 8 ? I notice some plugins will "slide" right in. Others won't install. And documentation is ususlly not standardized. Meaning, that all documentation should list the same required information for each plugin....which version of Sketchup is compatible.....where the downloaded plugin should be placed....and which folder Sketchup should install the plugin from. Right now, it's just hit-and-miss. Some plugins might install, others might not, there's no way to know for sure. That's where "standardization" steps in.

TIG :
Does the Hole Punchng Tool (plugin) require Sketchup 8 Pro ? The reason I'm asking is because I have Sketchup 8 (Free). When I downloaded this plugin, Sketchup said it was downloaded and installed. But, apparently, it's not in my Plugins Folder (within Sketchup). I checked and it is in the sdk folder inside of the Plugin Folder. But, the documentation doesn't state where it's supposed to be downloaded to, or what version of Sketchup it works with. With the Torus plugin, the documentation stated it would reside in the DRAW tab in Sketchup (which it is).

Hi everybody :
I downloaded and printed instructions from Sketchucation on how to insert a window into a thick wall. I followed the instructions EXACTLY. But, apparently, the instructions don't work. What I did was, form a wall (from a rectangle), created a window with some depth. A little more depth than the wall. Made the window a component (according to the instructions), the selected CUT OPENING. When I inserted the window into the wall, the window went "into" the wall, but didn't cut the opening. I know I could do it manually, by making an opening in the wall, then inserting the window into that opening. There must be another "work around" using Sketchup 8. I was also using the same instructions on a curved wall. Do I need a Sketchup add-on to accomplish this ?

Dave R. :
I wanted to get the correct name of the plugin. It's called the Torus Plugin. Once again I read through the description of it. And, in the description, it mentioned "to look in the DRAW menu (inside of Sketchup). I opened Sketchup, clicked on DRAW, and in the submenu, there was, in the listing, Torus.
Now, I AM confused. If, after editing the Persmissions, and Sketchup wouldn't install the extension, then how did it get there ? Now I'm NOT complaining this time. I'd just like to know what happened to cause it to "appear" in the menu. They say that if you manage to do something once, it very well might be an accident. But, if you can repeat it, it's not an accident. I'd just like to find out how to repeat whatever I did. I got the general idea..................

Dave R. :
No....I still can't install that .rbz file.
garystan
Dave R. :
The information I found in reference to Sketchup MR inferred it was for Mac OS.
garystan
Dave R. :
I was going through the Permissions. Being I'm the Administrator, I'm okay with FULL CONTROL. Also, in the Permissions folder, it also lists me as (User) GaryS. I edited that to FULL CONTROL. But, in the Permissions folder there's an entry labeled Trusted Installer. Do you have any idea what that could be. Its status isn't set for any actions (READ,WRITE or FULL CONTROL).
garystan
Dave R. :
Okay......working along this line of thinking...how do I correct the
Plugin Permissions ?
garystan
Dave R :
I tried that link. Sketchup 8 "Free" doesn't accept .rbz format plugins.
garystan
Dave R. :
According to the latest information, you need Sketchup MR in order to install .rbz format plugins into Sketchup.

I just did a little research on this. Apparently, you (and I) have to have Sketchup MR version in order to install .rbz plugins. Now....if I've got my information correct, Sketchup MR version is for Mac-based computers, not windows-based computers.
garystan
Box :
I just finished doing some research on this. Apparently, I'd have to have Sketchup MR version to be able to install plugins. And,again, apparently, Sketchup MR version is for the Mac computer, not a windows computer.

I've got Sketchup 8, and it WILL NOT accept .rbz format plugins. Everyone here is outright lying, stating that it WILL. I can provide the proof, unless these chickenshits don't have the balls to step up to the plate and admit they're wrong !!!!!!!
garystan
Dave R :
I made sure that that file I re-downloaded was an .rbz file. But, Sketchup 8 still won't accept it. I wonder if it's because my copy of Sketchup 8 is the "Free" version, not Sketchup 8 Pro. There's got to be a way around this.
And, not to sound like an old miser, but I checked the price of Sketchup 8 Pro. It's $495. That's kinda high just for home use, isn't it ?

Re:
I just did a "closer inspection" of that Ruby file I was trying to install.
The extension for that file is .rbs not .rbz. If that makes any difference.
garystan
Hi everybody :
I've been trying to install a downloaded .rbz file. I first downloaded it to my DOWNLOADS folder. The (within Sketchup 8) clicked on PREFERENCES>EXTENSIONS > LOCATE EXTENSION.
When I do a search outside of Sketchup, I see it in the DOWNLOADS folder. But, from within Sketchup the place where I know I placed doesn't appear.
And, I followed the directions EXACTLY.
There's got to be a work-around for the instructions I saw in the Forum.
