Hi everybody :
Is it possible to "paint" a texture on a curved surface ? Without any part of the texture becoming "squashed" ?

Thanks for your advice guys. I did a re-do (for the Xth time) of Piano Room. I think I got it this time.

ditto what pbacot said. a few comments, the corner of the windows still catches my eye first, then I go to the various objects in the room. Pick the object that you want to be the focal point and adjust your view so that is what the eye is drawn to first. I'd increase the field of view some so you have more of the left side of the scene in view. I'd try lowering the eye height a little maybe. It just take trying different angles and such until you hit that sweet spot. Keep experimenting ....

Taking a closer (and second) look at it. Yeah.....I think you're right about the perpsecive of the background. I take it......this part of the learning process.....

Good work! Feeling much better with piano etc. The exterior picture is the wrong perspective for the room. You'd want the horizon lower and the vanishing points sort of going along with the window grid.
pbacot :
I wasn't sure about where to set the horizon. I didn't want to give the impression that the room was high up. As for the pic itself.......I wasn't sure about that either. Thanks for your comments (advice).

Composition is key in any image, be it a photo or a render.
Here is a handy tip:
solo :
I did a little work on it. Re-arranging the furniture.....point of view...scale...etc. Hopefully, this looks better. (And, keeping the 2/3 rule in mind).

garystan, the scale of the piano is still bothering me. did a quickie search. The measurement from the floor to the bottom of the piano "case" is approximately 28 1/2" ( where your knees go when playing ), from floor to the top of the "lid is 40".your bookcase/credenza seems to dwarf the piano in size. most low bookcases and credenza's are usually 28" - 30" high on average. the next thing is just personal preference. I'd move the camera position to the right where you would have a more raking view of the wall with the bookcase. I'd rotate the piano a little clockwise so your not looking so straight on at it. It would also bring more of the sofa into view. All that said" by george your standing at the plate swinging at the pitches". Keep it up it's how you learn and get better.

Hey guys :
Hope I'm making any sketchucation mistakes. I just wanted to let you guys know that I watched the video. Some good ideas there. So I kinda adjusted the Piano Room....thinking about the postioning. Hopefully, this is an improvement.
garystan
Hey guys :
I watched the video. It has some good pointers. I cropped the rendering with the "positioning" mentioned in the video. I hope this looks better.

Hi everybody :
I need some advice on this one. I'm having a problem with scaling the scene. In this one, either the sofa and piano are too small. Or the credenza and electronics on it are too big. I kept looking at it, and I couldn't decide. But, it does seem to be "out of scale". In that sense, it doesn't seem like a smooth transition from left to right in the pic. Also, I'm not done with it yet.

Garystan,
The room has more a feel of American Southwest. Tapestry and bed cover seem like American Indian motifs.I like the lighting.

My bad......that's what I was going for. American Southwest/Indian. Thanks for your reply.

This is supposed to be a bedroom with a Spanish accent.

I like it. Looks like a nice place to get together with friends.....on a Saturday afternoon. Also.....the thing I like about it is...........it's quiet. Oh yeah......nice lighting !

alvis :
I like that. It gives the furniture that "expensive" look. Especially on that round bed ! Nice ! Keep the creative juices flowing.

inabzeous :
Nice. I especially like those "coverings" (for lack of a better word ) on the top. They provide shade and protect from most of the rain.

THey look nice enough. Keep creating !

I have attempted to ask how to make my own lights that will work with twilight render v2 only to be told that they are disinterested in telling me how to do so.
I have never experienced this sort of problem before and would like to know if it is unreasonable of me to want to make my own lights. I can make the units fine but when it comes to making them suitable for renders with twilight render v2 I hit a brick wall and the thread is closed.
Is this some kind of secrecy issue where they think I am out to steal copywrite or something of is this just another case of them not understanding a simple request and we are all just getting to the point where communication is impossible due to an irrational fear that I will lose them money somehow?
All I want to do is make lights that work in twilight render v2 fcs.
Mike Amos :
If you go to the Twilight Render website, there are tutorials (and guidelines) for lighting. I usually create my own lamps/ lights, then adjust the lighting they produce. I'll try to help you as much as possible. But, I'm not a Pro at this. garystan

can you post an example of one of these converted skp files?
also, do they open as pdf's?

john :
At the time, I kinda went into a panic, and didn't think about a screen capture. Good idea ! What I did was....I went into Control Panel / Folder Properties. And changed the file association to Sketchup. After changing the association of .skp to Sketchup. It listed the association as "Sketchup Model". In choosing what program would open these data files, it kept coming up either as Adobe Acarobat Reader or Sketchup 2016. I couldn't set it to Sketchup 8. And this part, for me, is kinda mysterious. After switching the association to Sketchup 2016, I was able to open the data files with Sketchup 8, Before, with the PDF title on the files, I couldn't open them directly....only using Sketchup. Now, I can click on the data files (containing the created objects) directly and Sketchup 8 opens. So now.....I went "backup" crazy, and copied as many of the data folders, at the time, to disk. ***As a side note: I thought my downloaded copy of Sketchup 2016 was a trial version ?***
garystan
Hi shetchucation :
Somehow, some of my .skp files (the objects that I created using
Sketchup got converted to .pdf format. Is this a total loss. On a good number of these, I wasn't careful enough to have a backup. If it's a total loss (for the ones now labeled with the .pdf extension).
