    • Using Shadows

      Hi everybody :

Is there a way to use SHADOWS to make "longer" trails of sunlight across the floor. For example : Setting the angle of the SHADOWS so that it would depict the sun at a lower angle for sunsets /sunrises. So that the sun would stream across the floor. I notice that SHADOWS is limited.
                                                       Thanks,

    • Sketchup 8

      Hi everybody :

Is Sketchup 8 being phased out ? The reason I ask is that Kerkythea and Twilight are now only working with Version 2016. Plus, the fact that those plugins don't exist for Sketchup 8. And, I notice that (with Google's greed) Version 2016 costs $700.

      @anton_s said:

      Hello garystan,

I'm no expert, but it seems like a javascript error, coming from a webdialog within your SketchUp 8. I have SU8 on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 and I don't get such errors. What I think you can do is update javascript and internet explorer.

If the error persists after the update, it could be related to the installed plugins. Do the following to determine whether the error is coming from the installed plugins.

      1. Close SU8
      2. Go to SU plugins folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google SketchUp 8
      3. Temporarily rename the plugins folder to "Plugins2"
      4. Start SU8
If the error doesn't persist, this would mean that the error is plugin related and half of your problem is resolved; otherwise, the error is related to something else.

If its plugin related, simply create a new plugins folder, naming it "Plugins", move all folders from "Plugins2" back to the "Plugins" folder. Then move the .rb files one-by-one move back into the "Plugins" folder. While doing so, start SU and see if the error shows up. If the error does show up, then you know that the last moved ruby file is responsible for such error. What you could do is update the plugin causing the error or move to SU2016 as the plugin may not be compatible with SU8.

That's because you can't open a .skp file directly in Kerkythea...
You need to use the SU2KT plugin and as the manual clearly inform, export to the XML-format, which can be opened in Kerkythea...

      @garystan said:

Anywhere you want it to be...
It's like asking, where do I save a .doc-file to be opened in MS Word...

I suggest that you create a folder for each model, as all textures will get exported as separated texture files (e.g. in JPG format)...

    • Making a Scene

      Sketchucation :

I need some advice on a project. I'm putting together a living room, later to be rendered by Twilight Render. My question is.......should I make the ENTIRE room (with furnishings) a component ? I started with the basic frame....walls and windows. Then added the furniture, fireplace and carpeting. Each individual object was imported from my library (on hard drive). I wasn't sure how to go about this. I just figured it'd be easier when opening this project. That way everything would be in place....all at one time. And ready to go for rendering. I haven't put the ceiling on yet.

                                                                 garystan

Thanks. I downloaded the user manual. Looked through it. But, there's no mention on HOW to import .skp files into Kerkythea. According to the instructional video, there's supposed to be the option of having the exported file opened in Kerkythea. I just get the dialog box with the usual stuff....Geometry...Light...etc. In the PDF manual, it just says to open the file in Kerkythea. I tried that, it didn't accept it. Unless......when I click on the "Export" button, Kerkythea converts the file to a compatible format for Kerkythea. The other question is.......where do I Save the "exported" file (so Kerkythea can pick it up) ?

                                                                         garystan

      Hi everybody :

I just installed the Kerkythea .rbz file into Sketchup 8. It's shown on the toolbar. Now........what is the process of exporting my model / .skp file to Kerkythea ? I clicked on the EXPORT button, then I got lost. I didn't know how to proceed after that.
                                                                        garystan

    • Inference

I've got a question about positioning an object within a scene. When I want to place an object in a very specific spot, I'd use INFERENCE. Correct ? The reason I ask is that I'm putting together some blank models of small houses / rooms. In these rooms, I'd like to place the curtains and rods in the appropriate spot. Now, when I do this, with INFERENCE, I can place them EXACTLY in the correct spot. Correct ?

Click either the PayPal image or the Braintree image to make payment.

      Here's the PayPal payment page...

      Here's the Braintree payment page...

I have to agree it is not very obvious that these images are buttons to payment.

I received a response from Twilight Render Techs. They informed me that, clicking on either PAYPAL or BRAINTREE icons would initiate the payment process. But, they should've had something on that same page designating those "icons" as the link to the payment. I had no way of knowing that these "icons" were links. I DID see them on the page, but didn't recognize them as links. Thanks for your reply. garystan

You're not the only one having problems with Twilight Render. For the past 4 (four) days, I've been trying to find out HOW the purchase of this software works. On their website, there is no payment page. Only references to Licensing Terms and cost. And the mention of WHO is the responsible party who accepts payment. And the Moderator and Senior Members of the Forum don't have a clue what is going on in the website.

I've been checking for the past three days on HOW to purchase a license for Twilight Render. The Moderators for the Forum (for the website) really don't know what is going on with the Twilight Render Website. They don't know what the process of paying for the license is. On the site it IS mentioned that PayPal and Braintree are the responsible parties for accepting payment. Other than that........the page where I would actually make the payment is missing. There is just general License information.
