Now I know why I'm a noob still. I was wainscoting an L shaped room so I made generic panels copied and pasted my way around the room. I had a couple beers, things were going good. Then I went back and tweaked them to fit the wall. I was quite happy sipping away. Went around that damn room 6 times fixing errors, before I realized I was changing the same component (1 0f 14). I might have gone on for hours 'cept I ran out of beer! 🀣

This what you want? Rotate the chair any direction and scale it to the right any length.
You don't list in your profile if you have the Pro version this is a dynamic component.

(fwiw- suFree can use dynamic components.. just can't create them unless you have the pro version)

i think it should be more like this:

<!-- ia1 -->DC_distribute.skp<!-- ia1 -->[/attachment:2y5hmse8]

<!-- ia0 -->Screen Shot 2013-09-05 at 11.02.26 PM.png<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:2y5hmse8]
**pretty sure the spacing formula could be refined to something more simple but this is the first go πŸ˜‰

but you'll see in the .skp that the block starts and ends at exact points then the gap is populated accordingly.. it could maybe use an if/then statement to set a minimum spacing if desired..

this should&could be a distribute plugin imo.. select the component then click on the start and end points.. 1001bit almost does it with one of it's linear array options but not quite..**

Except that the spacing you have gets narrower with the greater distribution, and I thought he wanted repetition on spacing, with the row ends being the adjustment. As in, start at the center and scale out to both ends, leaving the remainder as the row ends.

This may help. It's about dynamic components.

would give everyone a comfortable spot to position themselves, with a clearer understanding of what depth to answer their question.

I would agree with that. Sometimes, as I read the replies made to peoples questions, the answers are over my head, others are way to simple. But those are answers, to those people, and their level of understanding, is different than mine. I am a beginner and will always be a beginner I think, because I am always learning something new in here. Especially when the answers are different or several ways of doing the same thing, like native tools vrs. plugins. As I have read, even the gurus have different ways of doing the same thing. So, listing us as novice, beginner, etc. is only good if there is a question being asked. It isn't a badge of honor or title.

i know what you mean,

autocad is very accurate as per this article http://www.oocities.org/wpsmoke/accuracy/accuracy.html and each file has the same accuracy

That was interesting to read!!!!! Even though I don't use AutoCAD, it is interesting what can be done in 3d. πŸ‘

Been playing with a weave for practice and came up with this simple weave but the gaps are too great between the fibers. Is there a method to tighten it up or is it easier to just start again? Just interested nothing critical πŸ˜„

What would be the best style or design of a mantle for this fireplace? I am not an interior designer, but am working a job in which I was asked to design one...

• Creating a tree? Help please!

I have a customer that wants me to extend his deck out into the middle of some oak trees, but I haven't a clue on how to draw an oak tree in sketchup. I have pics from various angles and dimensions etc. but mother nature doesn't grow in straight lines. Any clues to get started?

Some of these are really good advices. I keep having trouble with keeping things tidy, but as it was mentioned so many times, nothing makes the work easier than well created groups.
All i can add is that practice makes perfect so keep working with sketchup on a daily basis. Since I started my regular -couple of hours a day, everyday- practice with sketchup I have learned a lot for such a short time, the progress is easily noticeable.

And it's good to "test" yourself. When I started 6 months ago I would download a random dwg file and covert it to 3d. I would spend all day trying to get it perfect. This morning I did one in less time than it took to drink my coffee, it's a boost to the ego to measure yourself.I have learned to do a full set of house plans etc. but it's still good to go back to basics once in a while and see how well you can do, as compared to a month or so before.
